Community Reminder: Managing Unwanted Door-to-Door Solicitors
Here are key reminders on local rules, your rights, and staying safe:
-
County Permit Requirement: Commercial solicitors in Loudoun County must carry and display a valid permit issued by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO). You have the right to ask to see their permit and photo ID before interacting. Learn more about local permit rules on the official Loudoun County Solicitor Permits Page.
-
Exemptions: Non-profit, political, religious, and charitable canvassers are exempt from county permit requirements under First Amendment protections.
-
Keep Your Door Closed: You do not need to open the door to strangers. Use a video doorbell or speak through a closed door to acknowledge presence ("Not interested, thank you"), which lets potential intruders know the home is occupied.
-
Display a "No Soliciting" Sign: A visible sign near your entryway legally puts commercial solicitors on notice.
-
When to Report: If a solicitor becomes aggressive, refuses to leave, or lacks a permit, contact the LCSO Non-Emergency Line at (703) 777-1021. Call 911 immediately if you feel unsafe or observe suspicious activity.

E-Bike Safety Signs in The Community!
In an effort to promote safety around e-bikes and other electric transportation throughout the community, our Facilities and Grounds team has been installing new e-bike safety signage in key locations.
These signs serve as a clear reminder that e-bikes and electric transportation devices are subject to specific restrictions within Ashburn Village. Residents and their guests are expected to adhere to all posted regulations and operate these devices responsibly to ensure the safety of everyone on the trails.
Trail Etiquette & Courtesy Guidelines
We ask all trail users to keep the following best practices in mind:
-
Manage Your Speed: Maintain a safe, controlled speed at all times.
-
Pass Safely: Give adequate space when passing others and announce your presence (e.g., "passing on your left").
-
Yield Properly: Pedestrians and runners always have the right-of-way.
-
Share the Path: Be mindful that our trails are shared by neighbors of all ages and mobility levels.
A Special Request for Parents
If your children ride electric transportation device, we kindly ask that you review these rules with them and emphasize the importance of safe, courteous riding.

-
Holiday Scams & Package Theft: With the holiday season approaching, please stay vigilant regarding suspicious activity, unexpected deliveries, and package theft in your area.

THIS SUNDAY!
Ashburn Village Invasive Plant Removal at Pavilion Lake
October 25, 2026 10AM-12PM
With the summer heat soon to be behind us, we'll be starting a little later in the morning. And this one will be a bit of a scavenger hunt! We'll be searching for Bradford pear and white mulberry saplings at Pavilion Lake. We'll also target some invasive species there that we haven't worked much on before, including a new arrival, Chinese penstemon. As always, the more volunteers we have, the more we can accomplish in these last few events of the year.
Join us to learn some new targets, see the beautiful new signs installed by the county about our native plants and wildlife, and enjoy the stunning fall color.

| Fall Yard Tips: Managing Leaves Naturally | |
October is peak season for admiring fall foliage, but as those beautiful leaves begin to fall, it’s easy to think about the work of raking and clearing them from your lawn. Before you grab the rake and bags, consider that those leaves can actually benefit your lawn and the environment in several ways.
Mulch the leaves: Move leaves around trees or garden beds to create a natural mulch. Leaves can help improve the soil, retain moisture, and reduce weeds. Why pay for expensive leaf mulch when you can get it for free?!?!
Compost the leaves: Create a compost pile and let the leaves break down naturally. Over time, they will decompose into nutrient-rich material that can benefit your soil and garden.
Leave the leaves for wildlife: Our native wildlife and insects have been decimated by climate change, development and invasive plants. Leaving leaves allows them to find shelter and hibernate over the winter. To keep your yard looking tidy, you can tuck a pile of leaves behind a bush, place logs around it, or create another discreet area where leaves can naturally accumulate.
A Reminder About Yard Waste Pickup
If you do set out yard waste for pickup, paper bags or a container clearly marked “Yard Waste” must be used. Plastic bags are not permitted. Republic Services will not pick up yard waste placed in plastic bags.
Yard waste pickup is on Mondays only.
For more helpful tips on why leaving the leaves is a smart alternative to bagging and disposing of them, visit the National Wildlife Federation’s Leave the Leaves resource by clicking here.

Ashburn Lake Forebay Retrofit Project
Work in Progress!
Project Information
Loudoun County is currently conducting a water quality improvement project at Ashburn Lake to ensure the lake continues to meet required environmental standards. The project may involve periodic equipment, brief access limitations, or visible work along the shoreline as improvements move forward.
Learn what the project entails here or read more on the Loudoun County Project Page.
Questions or Feedback?
Please submit any questions or comments regarding this project using the Ashburn Lake Forebay Retrofit Project Comment Form, available on the Loudoun County website.
🚧 Trail & Construction Area Reminder
As work continues on the lake and dam improvement project, the affected trail and construction areas remain closed to the public.
We have fencing, barricades, and signage in place to help keep everyone safe. We kindly ask everyone to please stay outside the fenced areas and respect the posted closures by not bypassing, moving, or climbing over any fencing or barricades.
Construction areas can have hazards that aren't always easy to see, so while the work is underway, we invite you to enjoy the trails and other open areas of Ashburn Village.
We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as this important project moves forward. Thank you for helping us look out for our neighbors, families, and project crews and keeping our community safe!
