Help Identify Common Areas in Need of Trees and Shrub Beds

The Ashburn Village Landscape Committee is asking for your input again this year to recommend common areas in need of trees. You can either recommend common areas in need of trees or you can donate trees to the common area adjacent to your property using the forms on the main page of the Ashburn Village website. The deadline for submitting these recommendations or donation requests is June 21.

Your input matters. Each year, we plant over 200 native trees that improve our tree canopy,

encourage wildlife, provide a natural buffer, improve the beauty of our neighborhood, and

increase the value of our properties. Our planting plan each Fall is based on the

recommendations of Ashburn Village residents. As you drive or walk around our community, if

you notice a common area that could use a few more trees or a shrub bed, let us know by

completing the Homeowner Recommendations for Common Area Plantings form's:

The association prioritizes tree plantings that serve as a buffer to streets, non-residential structures,

trails or other public areas.

If you are interested in common area tree plantings adjacent to your property that serve as a

buffer primarily to other residential properties, consider donating trees to the common area.

Each year, Ashburn Village has been fortunate to have residents willing to donate trees to our

common areas. Because these donated trees are included in our overall Fall planting plan, the

cost for a professionally installed tree is a discounted price. If you’ve ever wanted to plant trees

in the common area near your property, completing the Common Area Tree Donation form is the

way to get this done.

Providing your input by June 21st allows us to include your input into our Fall planting plan for

2026.

Invasive plants are not just an eyesore. They can create real problems in your neighborhood.

Vines can trap moisture and increase mosquito habitat. They can also smother and kill mature trees. Some invasive plants attract ticks. Others dry out and increase wildfire risk. And a few can even be harmful to your pets.

Join us for a hands-on training/workday that will show you exactly how to restore and protect your local woods

.

We will meet in a wooded area in Ashburn Village (TBD) and walk through, step by step, how to:

• Assess the health of a woodland and spot early warning signs

• Identify the most common invasive trees, shrubs, and vines in our area

• Prioritize what to tackle first for the biggest impact



• Remove invasive plants effectively using both herbicide and non-herbicide methods

This is not a lecture. It is a real boots on the ground experience where you will learn by doing. And if you're already experienced, come help us get more accomplished!

It is also a lot of fun. There is something incredibly satisfying about clearing invasive vines and immediately seeing native trees and plants freed. You will leave with that sense of instant gratification, knowing you made a visible difference. And as a bonus, it is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while working alongside like-minded neighbors.
