Get Involved!
Pavilion Lake Invasive-Free Challenge
The Ashburn Village Invasives Removal Team (AVIRT) is kicking off a new challenge, and we need your help!
Pavilion Lake, Ashburn Village’s most popular destination, is home to at least a dozen species on the Virginia Invasives List. These invasives are crowding out and taking over the native trees, bushes, and flowers there. So, for the next 12 months, AVIRT will focus on creating an invasive-free lake in the heart of our HOA.
We’re starting with the Bradford/Callery pears, white mulberries, and Amur maples. Fall is the best time to tackle invasive trees, so we'll get started on Sunday, September 28.
· If you helped us battle the Tree of Heaven this summer, use the skills you learned to treat approximately 40 pear and mulberry trees ahead of their removal as well as to begin cutting down and treating the hundreds of saplings around Pavilion Lake.
· If you haven’t volunteered with us before, come and learn how to spot these invasive trees and get rid of them.
The Pavilion Lake Invasive-Free Challenge will continue throughout fall and winter and into next spring with additional workdays to remove invasive bushes and vines most easily handled during non-growing months.
