You're the Key to Preventing Vehicle Theft

For the past several months we have seen ongoing reports of vehicle break-ins and theft of contents.  These types of crimes happen in all communities, including those that are gated. We would like to review some simple tips that you can employ to reduce your risk of becoming a victim.
  1. Always take your key and garage door opener with you when leaving your vehicle unattended.
  2. Always close and lock all windows, sunroofs and doors.
  3. Park in well-lit areas.  Make sure you turn on your exterior lights during hours of darkness.
  4. Always keep your vehicle in your garage, if possible.
  5. Never, ever leave valuables in your vehicle, especially where they can be seen.
  6. Never, ever leave the area while your vehicle is running.
  7. Etch your driver's license number on all removable valuable items. Items such as audio equipment.
  8. Don't leave your driver's license or title in the vehicle.
  9. Keep a record of the VIN number, license plate number, and insurance information in your wallet or purse.
  10. Install a vehicle tracking and location system that can be activated after the vehicle is reported as stolen.
If your vehicle is stolen or broken into, call police immediately, and provide a complete description of the items taken. Also provide license plate number, make and model of vehicle, year and color, plus VIN number and insurance company. If the vehicle was burglarized, don't touch the vehicle and disturb any evidence.

It is hard to believe that next year the Villages of Westcreek will celebrate our 30th Anniversary!

Have you ever thought what our community looked like then or even before? What was the first home sold in Westcreek?  What were the home values then compared to today?  Who were the developers and builders at that time?  How far was the closest HEB?  What was here before the Villages of Westcreek?  Who were the original Board Members of the Association? What were the challenges then compared to today for the Association?

The Communications Committee is seeking volunteers who would be willing to "Chase the VWOA History" down.

If you enjoy researching history and would like to participate in this project, please contact the Communications Committee Chair, Bill Fenstermacher.

This weekend around the house, take time to inspect the siding, fascia, soffits, trim and chimneys on your home for wood rot, faded or chipped paint, mold and mildew.  If you find a problem, develop a plan to remedy those problem areas during the next 30 Days.  If you anticipate it will take longer than 30 days, contact the "Standards Superintendent" of the problem to discuss a projected completion date, so they can annotate your property record.

If you plan to change paint colors, be sure to submit a Property Improvement Request to the Architectural Review Committee, for prior approval.

  • Please remember to be observant in your neighborhood.
  • Report any suspicious activities or persons to the Bexar County Sheriff's office at 210-335-6000.
  • If you see graffiti or vandalism in the Villages of Westcreek, please report it to the office at 210-679-8761.

Tip #1: Case the joint.

Walk around your home with the eyes of a burglar. Look for weaknesses-sliding doors that could be jimmied off the track, glass that could be broken to gain entry, window unit air conditioners that could be easily removed, and so forth. A committed burglar can usually find a way into a house, but you can make it more difficult for them, and this starts with knowing your property and potential entry points for a break-in. Take a walk around the outside as well and note what pricey items are in view, tempting would-be burglars.

It's the Holiday Season ... Outside Decorations

Holiday decorations may be displayed on the premises, without ARC approval, if they are displayed no earlier than:
  • forty (40) days before Christmas;

  • must be removed no later than fifteen (15) days following the actual holiday's date (the Christmas holidays have until January 16 to be removed).

Special event decorations such as birthdays, anniversaries, newborns, returning veterans, etc., may be displayed on the premises for no more than three (3) days without Standards Department approval, if:

  • the number of decorations are minimized; and,
  • decorations or signs are not placed anywhere else within the Villages of Westcreek, including the properties fronting any entrance to the Villages of Westcreek.
