This Week in Westcreek

Current Announcements

"Logic will get you from A to B.  Imagination will take you Everywhere!" ~  Albert Einstein

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Mike Hunsucker, as the new Spectrum Community Manager for the Villages of Westcreek.   We are very pleased to have him as a member of our team and know that this is the beginning of a mutually beneficial association.

We would also like to welcome back Sylvia Mennel, who will assume the role of "Assistant Community Manager."  Ms. Mennel will be joining our team on October 3, 2016.

It is hard to believe that next year the Villages of Westcreek will celebrate our 30th Anniversary!

Have you ever thought what our community looked like then or even before?  What was the first home sold in Westcreek?  What were the home values then compared to today?  Who were the developers and builders at that time?  How far was the closest HEB?  What was here before the Villages of Westcreek?  Who were the original Board Members of the Association?  What were the challenges then compared to today for the Association?

The Communications Committee is seeking volunteers who would be willing to "Chase the VWOA History" down.  If you enjoy researching history and would like to participate in this project, please contact the Communications Committee Chair, Bill Fenstermacher.

When someone sees your name on caller ID, what thoughts and feelings do you want them to have?

The Ad Hoc Fence Committee was established in May of 2015 with the primary purpose of looking into various types of fences to replace those in Westcreek that abut major streets.
Paragraph 5.02 of the "Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions" (CC&Rs) specifies that maintenance of these fences is one of the purposes of homeowners' assessments. As the wooden fences got older, the cost of maintaining these fences increased. The VWOA Board of Directors (BOD) decided to consider new options in maintaining these fences.
The committee agreed that the goal was to research fence material that is low cost, low maintenance, graffiti resistant or economical to remove, and in line with the CC&R's. After internet research, they identified for consideration five (including the one that came later) types of fences (plus wood): Interlocking mortarless concrete blocks, Precast Concrete, Vinyl, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)and Polyethylene. They had vendor presentations, developed an evaluation spreadsheet and grade scale and discussed the options.

One product rose to the top of their list. The product looks like wood but is essentially maintenance free, compared to the wood fence. That fence product was the recommended product forward to the BOD.

The vendor provided a sample of the product so the BOD could see the product. The BOD had the VWOA Maintenance Department conduct tests to see how it would withstand weed-whacking. They performed four different tests where they ran a weed-eater against it. The weed-eater line got so hot that it began to melt and leave wax markings on the fence. The maintenance supervisor said that it did no permanent damage to the fence.

Nineteen VWOA volunteers worked hard to bring various options to the BOD in their effort to address our deteriorating fences. They were: Francis Lomax, Joyce and Guy Oliver, Barb and Gene Hopkins, Bill Fenstermacher, Sylvia Mennel, Maribelle Serna-Hewitt, Roger Torres, Lydia Tolle, Nick Giardino, Rick Severs, Kevin Drummonds, Dale Stewart, David Pater, Jessica Flores, Billy Teeter, Ann Lomax, and Heather Mallia.

Please consider joining a committee to help the BOD (who are also volunteers) improve our community. You too, can make a difference.

For the past three weeks, we have been reporting on the latest home being built by "Homes for Our Troops."  On Saturday, September 17th, Chief Warrant Office TaMarsh Thompson, received the keys to his new specialty adapted home on Sage Run.

This is the 223rd home built by "Homes for Our Troops" throughout the country.

Welcome to our community TaMarsh and thank you for your service to our country!

Recent news reports revealed that a mosquito caught in the northwest Bexar County community of Wildhorse tested positive for the West Nile virus.  The mosquito was caught in a trap located in a drainage channel near the 10000 block of Mustang Rise on the city's northwest side near FM 1560 and Shaenfield Road.  This area is not too far from the Villages of Westcreek.

With recent rains, and the mosquito population on the rise, we ask that all residents take the time to eliminate breeding areas within the villages by following these simple steps.
  • Keep mosquitoes from laying eggs in and near standing water.
  • Once a week, empty and scrub, turn over, cover, or throw out items that hold water, such as tires, buckets, planters, toys, pools, birdbaths, flowerpots, or trash containers.
  • Check inside and outside your home.
  • Female mosquitoes lay several hundred eggs on the walls of water-filled containers.
  • Eggs stick to containers like glue and remain attached until they are scrubbed off.  When water covers the eggs, they hatch and become adults in about a week.
