Beyond the e-news, WVRA is working every day to make Westville a brighter, safer, more vibrant place to be. WEST RIVER WALK REVEALS WORK TO DO AND WHY
March 22, 2021, The New Haven Independent, by Courtney Luciana- "Nature is a work in progress. Nothing is complete," Frank Cochran said. "Stop thinking, 'I'm going to complete this task.' You're not, and that's good." Cochran (pictured on far left) of the West River Watershed Coalition (WRWC) offered that advice Saturday as he led a pack of eight volunteers throug the West River Watershed Greenway Trail. Their mission: Learn more about the marvels found in the woods, and contribute to preserving them. WRWC, which was established in 2013, develops trails along the West River Greenway, clears invasive plants and vines, clears the river channel, and removes garbage. One of the earliest problems to be tackled after the formation of WRWC was the merger of sewer outfalls. Several years before and after the 1900s, giant sewers, combined with sanitary and storm sewers, would release backup into the city rivers. WRWC has also convinced the government to install bioswales to keep water from getting into storm sewers, and prevent damaging overflows..." JURIED ART SHOW: THREE 500$ PRIZES AWARDED!
Attention all artists: Three $500 prizes will be awarded in our 5th Annual Juried Show "Our DNA"!Open Call to ArtistsDeadline: Sunday, May 16. All media welcome. Visit link in bio for submission details and full prospectus We humans are biological siblings, belonging to the genus Homo and, as Sapiens, the last surviving species of our genus. The last year spoke loudly of division and differences, but for this exhibit we ask you as artists to focus on our 99.9% shared genome. Using any tools or languages, explore the belief systems and vocabularies of our family tree that touch on our common destiny and collective value. Remind us who we are. Explain us to ourselves. Reveal something of our common physical or metaphorical DNA, our essential humanity, the soul of the Sapien. FULL DETAILS CLICK HERE
