Be a Village Person!

This Week in Westville is your go-to source for news, events, activities and goings-on in the Westville community. Like NPR and other user-supported media, much of our operations rely on the support of our "local listeners" - you, the reader. In order for the Westville Village Renaissance Alliance to continue providing this valuable community service, we ask you to donate or join WVRA as a Village Person today! Beyond the e-news, WVRA is working every day to make Westville a brighter, safer, more vibrant place to be. To learn more about our Main Street program initiatives, from community and cultural activities, economic revitalization, traffic-calming, historic preservation, and other quality of life efforts, click HERE.

NEW INSTALLATION "MONSTERA" BY ALEX TESTERE EASTWALL WESTVILLE  - "Plants can feel eerily human when you spend a bit of time with them. They work slowly yet constantly, and they don't always have something to show for it. But regardless of the display, the work is happening. Take for example the cherry tree, unfurling blips of green and soft welcoming petals from a branch that, to any onlooker, would appear to be dead. The entire lifeless winter was spent preparing for this one fleeting moment, and from the outside, who would have ever seen it coming?  After watching a single propagated stem of my monstera plant sit silently in a pot of earth for months, waiting for it to grow more leaves, I recognized something in myself when it put out its first green bud: No matter how much time it was taking to get my ideas on paper, or to manifest the artwork sitting dusty in my dreams, the work was happening. The big reveal was still to come. One day, where there once was nothing, there would be a leaf. And then another leaf. And another leaf. And then who knows what wonders might unfurl after that?" Light refreshments served. Parental discretion is advised as the film contains sensitive material.

About the Film from the Filmmakers:
Winnie Madikizela Mandela is one of the most misunderstood and intriguingly powerful contemporary female political figures.
Her rise and seeming fall from grace, bear the hallmarks of epic tragedy. For the first time, this film pieces together and properly considers her life and contribution to the struggle to bring down Apartheid from the inside, with intimate insight from those who were closest to her and with testimony from the enemies who sought to extinguish her radical capacity to shake up the order of things.
