Be a Village Person!

This Week in Westville is your go-to source for news, events, activities and goings-on in the Westville community. Like NPR and other user-supported media, much of our operations rely on the support of our "local listeners" - you, the reader. In order for the Westville Village Renaissance Alliance to continue providing this valuable community service, we ask you to donate or join WVRA as a Village Person today! Beyond the e-news, WVRA is working every day to make Westville a brighter, safer, more vibrant place to be. To learn more about our Main Street program initiatives, from community and cultural activities, economic revitalization, traffic-calming, historic preservation, and other quality of life efforts, click HERE.

February 8, 2019, The New Haven Independent, by Markeshia Ricks- "Women of the Elm City have a new haven where they can take off their superwomen capes and draw from a "well" that aims to restore them to fight another day.  That place is The Well For Women, which officially opened its doors at the Blake Center at 495 Blake St. on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.  Owner Julie Robbins was joined by her family, staff, Mayor Toni Harp, and other city officials as she marked the expansion of her massage therapy empire in Westville, a section of the city she calls home.  Robbins, who also owns Westville Massage on West Elm Street, said she opened the new location because she couldn't keep up with the demand without bringing on more therapists...  Click HERE to comment and read full article

February 8, 2019, The Daily Nutmeg, by Kathy Leonard Czepiel-  "For artist Dan Gries, the tool of choice is a laptop, and the medium is computer code. Lines of letters and numbers and symbols-with some parameters deliberately left unspecified-generate images that can surprise even him, which he then manually refines into fine art prints. The results are evocative, sometimes otherworldly patterns of lines and dots and nameless shapes born in the space between rules and randomness.  In Art from Code, an exhibition of 33 of Gries's prints on view at the Ives Main Library through March 15, it's possible at times to glimpse the creative process at work, to imagine the code behind the images. Take, for example, seven items in his Stacked Lines series, perhaps beginning with Black Stacked Lines, which removes color from the equation. What might Gries, who codes using Processing, have instructed the software to do?"  Click HERE to comment and read full article.
