Bob Silverstein is a photographer whose work focuses on landscape and architectural subjects. In addition, as a volunteer with food assistance organizations in Virginia and New Haven, he has photographed many charity events and clients receiving food services. Though Bob is mostly self-taught, he enjoys going to photography workshops to gain additional knowledge and inspiration.

STRING THEORY IRENE K. MILLER @DASILVA GALLERY

Opening reception on June 1, 6-8 pm. Runs through July 6th.  

This exhibit will showcase the incredible monotypes from artist Irene K. Miller.  "For the past few years I have been making monotypes based on dream images and visual abnormalities.   The visions I see are fleeting, but they do leave an after-image in my memory that I try to capture on  paper.    

I base this series of  prints on structural elements as seen through an electron microscope and visual  distortions caused by high myopia. The vehicle for my current  work is  the monotype, a one-of-a-kind print that I build up in layers.  The process is similar in each print.  I use  a combination of solvents, sand and salt to construct the background layer on the plate.  Next I add string-like materials - thread, mesh, wool, rope, and found objects to add dimensionality to the image... PRINTING ON PLASTER - A DEMONSTRATION BY TOM EDWARDS

Join artist Tom Edwards as he demonstrates the technique of printing etchings on plaster.

About the Instructor: Tom Edwards received a MFA from Yale University School of Fine Arts, majoring in painting and printmaking. He was awarded the Elizabeth Canfield Hicks Honorary Award in Drawing. He received a MA from Kansas State University, majoring in drawing and printmaking, where he also received a bachelor of architecture degree. Tom's work has been exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibits worldwide, and is held in numerous collections such as: Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC), Library of Congress (DC), National Museum of American Art (DC), Smithsonian Collection (DC), The New Britain Museum of American Art (CT), Baltimore Museum (MD), and The Boston Printmakers Permanent Collection (MA), to name a few.

ART AND KABBALAH MEET IN PAINTINGS 

Sandra Valabregue, a painter and independent scholar who specializes in medieval Kabbalah and philosophy, will give an artist's talk at BEKI on Saturday, May 18 at 12:45 pm. Sabbath rules will be observed.

Her exhibition, called "Circles in the Tree," shows her recent focus on Jewish topics such as Angels, Talisman, Hamsah and the sefirotic tree. 
                
This show runs through June 2.
