Iowa Lakes Corridor announces 2019 Business Recognition Award winners



Thank you to everyone who came on Wednesday to celebrate accomplishments throughout the Corridor over the last year!


The Corridor recognized great achievements by local businesses Wednesday at the organization’s 10th Annual Meeting and Business Recognition Luncheon at the Clay County Regional Events Center in Spencer.
 
Winners of this year’s Business Recognition awards are:
  • Young Professional of the Year – Candace Daniels, Spencer Hospital, Spencer
  • Entrepreneur of the Year – Jay Butterfield, Stickers and Posters, Storm Lake
  • Small Business Excellence – Oleson Chiropractic, Armstrong
  • Large Business Excellence – Janitor’s Closet, Spencer
  • Chairman’s Award – Buena Vista University, Storm Lake
 
Barry Sackett of Sackett Law Firm and Rick Olesen, President of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative, were honored for their six years of service on the Corridor board.
 
“Economies are built through hard work, innovation and relentless discipline,” says Corridor President and CEO Kiley Miller. “The Corridor’s annual business recognition awards celebrate individuals and companies in our region who exemplify those characteristics. We all benefit from their achievements.”

Okoboji Tree Specialists owner receives Iowa Impact Award

Tom Wright, owner of Okoboji Tree Specialists, was presented the Small Business Association (SBA) Iowa Impact Award last week.

The SBA Iowa Impact Award recognizes an Iowa small business owner that has received assistance from the SBA and resource partners to successfully grow their business.

Wright is a veteran who served as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1986 to 2008. After retiring from the military, he purchased Okoboji Tree Specialists and utilized SBA’s government guaranteed loan programs to grow the business in the Iowa Great Lakes region.

Chief Prosser honored in DC for his immigration advocacy
Storm Lake Police Chief Mark Prosser traveled to Washington, DC last week to receive a "Keepers of the American Dream" award from the National Immigration Forum and America is Better. On Monday, Prosser was the honored guest at a program hosted by SALUD.

Students in three school districts working on projects for area businesses
Through the No Boundaries project-based learning program in GTRA, Okoboji and Spencer schools, students have been working on projects for local businesses. These select students chose a project at the beginning of the semester and are working in teams to learn skills necessary to enter the workforce while also assisting local businesses.

Storm Lake United's first CommUNITY Holiday Glow event brought in over 250 food items and $100+ in cash, donated to Upper Des Moines Opportunity.
