This Week in the Corridor
BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology

The Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation will join the Iowa Economic Development Authority next week in Des Moines at one of the world's largest biotechnology show.

BIO, the World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology, takes over the capitol city from Monday to Thursday, bringing together leaders in areas such as crop technology, synthetic biology, advanced biofuels, biobased renewables, renewable chemicals and food ingredients.

CEO Kiley Miller will represent the Corridor.

"Iowa really is the heartland of biotechnology so it makes sense to bring BIO to the state," Miller said. "The Corridor will be there to share with attendees the reasons why the Lakes of Northwest Iowa are a profitable place for innovation."

Miller will be among several economic development professionals across the state helping to staff an IEDA trade show booth.

"As we've explained in the past, it makes sense to partner with statewide organizations at trade shows," he said. "The State of Iowa has a well-known and impactful brand and we'll coattail on that brand whenever we can."

Intern Spotlight:
Luke Thompson

Luke Thompson, a 2018 graduate of Okoboji High School, is a mechanical engineer intern for the summer at 966 Industries located in Milford. He just finished up his first year at South Dakota State University where he studies mechanical engineering.

966 Industries is a new and quickly growing manufacturing and automation company, and they were originally not looking for an intern when Thompson approached the owner, Kevin Frodermann. "I asked a family friend of ours who works there if they were looking for any interns, and he referred me to Kevin and said I should just ask and see what happens." This tip proved fruitful for Thompson, as the company created a full-time summer internship position specifically for him.
