DOWNTOWN GLENDALE
NEWS & EVENTS
| | LIBRARY SERVICES & EVENTS | | |
3D printing is a fantastic tool for children’s learning because it turns imagination into reality while developing important skills across science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). When kids design and print their own creations, they engage in hands-on problem-solving and critical thinking. They learn how to go from an idea to a tangible object, which strengthens spatial reasoning and design thinking. Whether they’re making simple toys or mechanical parts, the trial-and-error process teaches persistence and creativity.
Beyond the technical aspects, 3D printing also encourages collaboration and storytelling. In group settings like school or library workshops, kids often work together on projects, improving their communication and teamwork. They also get excited about what they’ve made, which opens up opportunities to explain their thought process—boosting confidence and presentation skills. It’s a fun, interactive way to learn that appeals to visual and tactile learners and helps prepare kids for the future of tech-driven innovation.
The City of Glendale’s Communications Department recently sat down with Glendale Librarian Michael Schmidt to explore the exciting 3D printing programs and resources now available at the Glendale Public Library. Their conversation highlighted how the library is making this cutting-edge technology accessible to the community through hands-on learning opportunities for all ages. To watch the video, click here!
