Weekly Councilmember Message
On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, I had the honor of attending a meaningful event hosted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Arizona at the Glendale Police Department in Downtown Glendale. During this event, the Chamber generously donated 150 meals to our Police Officers, First Responders, and support staff as a gesture of appreciation for their service to the community.
It was a pleasure to speak briefly with Mr. Barry Wong, JD, former Chairman and member of the Board of Directors for Global Ties Arizona. As a former Glendale resident and student who attended both elementary and high school in the city, Mr. Wong’s continued connection to Glendale made the moment even more special. We are truly grateful for the Chamber's generosity and their heartfelt recognition of the dedicated men and women in uniform.

Each year, the Glendale Municipal Water System invites customers to take part in the Lead and Copper Drinking Water Study. We are seeking Glendale Water Customers who live in homes built between 1982 and 1989 to participate in the study. You may receive a phone call from a water services employee asking if you'd like to participate. Participating in the testing is voluntary and free of charge, and you won't be asked to make any purchases. If you choose to participate, you only need to provide a sample of your tap water to the Glendale Water Quality Laboratory between June and September. The City will provide all sample collection items and arrange for contactless delivery and pick-up.
Glendale's water is non-corrosive, and it is not expected to show elevated levels of lead or copper. This monitoring program is one of many city programs designed to ensure that customers have access to high-quality drinking water that complies with all aspects of the Safe Drinking Water Act. Participation in the study helps the City ensure that the water supplied by the Glendale Municipal Water System meets the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements for lead and copper. If you're interested in participating, you can sign up here. If you have any questions, please call the City of Glendale Water Quality Laboratory at 623-930-3897.

The Glendale, Arizona Police Department’s K9 Unit plays a vital role in supporting public safety and law enforcement operations across the city. Comprising highly trained police dogs and their dedicated handlers, the unit is an integral part of the department’s specialized services. These K9 teams are trained in various skills, including suspect tracking and apprehension, narcotics detection, evidence recovery, and search and rescue missions. Their acute senses—particularly smell and hearing—enable them to perform tasks that human officers simply cannot do as efficiently, making them invaluable partners in policing.
Beyond their tactical capabilities, Glendale’s K9 officers also contribute to community engagement. The unit often participates in public demonstrations, school visits, and community events, helping to build trust and educate residents about the role of police dogs in law enforcement. The presence of the K9 Unit not only enhances officer safety during high-risk operations but also significantly increases the effectiveness of crime prevention and response efforts. In short, the Glendale Police Department’s K9 Unit stands as a symbol of dedication, skill, and teamwork, reinforcing the department’s mission to protect and serve with excellence.
Recently, the Glendale PD K9 Unit conducted lake patrol training, including water and boat deployments—and K9 Duco crushed it!

The city of Glendale was honored as the “Best City for Business” by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry. This recognition is awarded annually to a single city that, according to the Chamber, has gone above and beyond to enhance the state’s global competitiveness and advance the priorities of our business community.
“We’ve known for some time that Glendale is the most business-friendly city in Arizona. What makes this award especially meaningful is that it validates that belief, not just internally, but from the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, the state’s leading voice for the business community,” said Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps. “It’s a powerful endorsement of the work we’ve done to create a thriving, supportive environment for businesses of all sizes.”
The Chamber’s unanimous vote for Glendale reflects the city’s strong economic development efforts, strategic business partnerships and continued commitment to creating an environment for positive relationships.
“Glendale has shown what it means to be a pro-growth, pro-business city,” said Danny Seiden, president and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry. “From attracting new investment to supporting existing employers, Glendale continues to make smart decisions that drive jobs and long-term economic growth. We’re proud to recognize them as our 2025 Best City for Business.”
Glendale is focused on creating a robust business sector by establishing the city as a major employment and entertainment hub. In the past six years, nearly 13,000 jobs have come to Glendale across all industries and there is currently more than $1.5 billion in investment projects under development in the Sports and Entertainment District.
“This award is a credit to the continued efforts of our incredible economic development team, our business partnerships, and our City Council,” said Mayor Jerry P. Weiers. “In Glendale, we strive to be the most business-friendly and family-friendly city in the region, and this award demonstrates we are doing just that.”
The award was presented at the Arizona Chamber’s 2025 Annual Awards Celebration on June 3, 2025, in Phoenix, AZ.
