LIBRARY SERVICES & EVENTS

Each library location has a Culture Pass display. Take the pass you want to the library service desk to check it out. You will receive a receipt that will grant you free admission for two people at the participating location.

Culture Passes for museums and similar venues do not include admission to special exhibitions or events, only general admission.

Performing Arts Culture Passes are limited-time, single-use vouchers for specific performances. Each library location will post a notice on the Culture Pass display when they are available, usually between a week to ten days before a performance. When you check one out, you will receive a voucher with a special code and directions for how to redeem it for admission to the performance.

Calling all gardening novices and experts alike! Our Seed Library allows adults to "check out" and keep up to three different types of seeds every seven days. We'll feature different varieties of seeds for spring and fall planting. The varieties of seeds we have in stock change often, with the biggest new selections in spring and summer.

Select a card with a picture of the seeds you want from one of the Seed Library displays shown in the image above. Bring it to the library service desk, where a staff member will take the card from you and give you the seeds you’ve selected. The seeds are yours to keep; you don't need to return anything to the library. You may check out up to three different types of seeds every seven days. Seed packets are available on a first-come, first-served basis and holds are not allowed. Happy gardening!

DOWNTOWN GLENDALE

NEWS & EVENTS

My office has been actively collaborating with Glendale High School Administration, the student-led Glendale Conservation Society, and the Sierra Club on a campus beautification project. We are pleased to share that four Phoenix Mesquite trees were planted this week in high-traffic student common areas. These trees will provide much-needed shade, enhance the campus landscape, and contribute to a greener, more sustainable environment.

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, I had the opportunity to visit Glendale High School and speak with soon-to-be graduates who are members of the Student Council and the Glendale Conservation Society. It was an engaging and thoughtful conversation, and I’m excited to see the promising futures that lie ahead for these dedicated young leaders.

Planting trees on school campuses offers numerous benefits—from providing natural shade that cools buildings and outdoor spaces, to improving air quality and creating a more welcoming atmosphere for students and staff. These efforts also serve as valuable, hands-on learning experiences that promote environmental stewardship and sustainability. In addition, they help cultivate a sense of pride and connection within the school community.

Congratulations to the graduating class of 2025! I look forward to continued collaboration with Glendale High School on future projects that support both education and environmental sustainability.

Youth Scholarships for Sports

The Glendale Parks and Recreation Department maintains a scholarship fund to help Glendale youth who do not have the financial means to participate in recreation programs. The scholarship program is made possible through donations from businesses and individuals throughout the Valley. Scholarships are offered to residents of Glendale and are available for designated programs offered by Glendale Parks and Recreation.

Residents of Glendale may apply for a youth scholarship. A child/youth is defined as being 17 years of age or under. Approval of the application is made on an individual basis. The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department uses a sliding-fee scale guideline based on total household income and number of dependents. The scale assists staff in determining the amount of scholarship awarded.
