Light and Delight

A Prayer for our Community in Transition

Almighty God, you know the needs of your Church in every place: look graciously upon the people of Saint Mary’s and grant us the guidance of your Holy Spirit as we seek a new Rector for this parish. Guide the members of our Search Committee as they labor to be faithful in seeking your will. Inspire those who will discern with us, that each may be responsive to Your call. Give us wisdom and confidence in your timing, and in all things help us to seek the path you have set for us to follow. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Search Committee Corner

The window for clergy who wish “to discern with us” about our vacant rectorship will close next week, on November 16. Following our diocese’s instruction to ensure fair treatment for all, the Search Committee will wait until after that deadline to view any applications, including the 16 that have already arrived. Initially, we’ll develop a “long list” of individuals whom we’ll interview by Zoom. We’ll base that cut on the extensive materials – including CVs, ministry profiles, and examples of sermons – that accompany all applications. We’ll decide whether each individual’s skills, experience, and attributes align with those that the parish articulated in the CAT survey. Meanwhile, as we await the deadline for applications we’re developing questions we’ll pose to individual who make the long list. If you have questions or comments for us, please email them to [email protected].

If you have any questions or comments for us, please email them to [email protected].

Prayer Requests

If you have additions to our Parish Prayer List, please fill out this,

Online Prayer Request Form There are also always paper forms available in the rear of the church or our parish office.

Flower Dedications

Please click here for the online signup form. Flower arrangements can be donated for so many different reasons whether it is in loving memory of a deceased loved one, in celebration of a joyous event, a wedding, a baptism, a graduation, or in thanksgiving for something important in your life. We are very blessed to have a team of talented flower guild members who always work to create beautiful arrangements holding your intentions in their hearts. We also have a paper sign-up on the bulletin board in the sunroom as well. Please note that dates do need to be shared as we have a large community to honor and celebrate together. There are NO flowers during Advent or Lent. You are welcome to dedicate Altar Arrangements during Advent but please understand the arrangements will not include flowers, just seasonal greens.

Thank you!

Tea on The Terrace/ Coffee Hour

We are always looking for more hosts and hostesses.

Please be sure to check the bulletin board in the sunroom in order to sign-up. You are welcome to co-host with a friend if you desire. We have allowed for 2 volunteer slots each week although, you are welcome to host solo as well. This is a crucial way for us to build community and welcome newcomers. Thank you very much for your help with this ministry.

Be a Greeter

To help support a culture of welcoming at St. Mary’s, please consider showing up 15–20 minutes early to stand at one of our entry doors (the main Walden hall entry being the most important) to say hello and provide directions to any newcomers. Welcome to Saint. Mary’s buttons are available at each of the entries. If available after the service, please stand next to Father Scott to invite newcomers to enjoy a coffee downstairs. If possible, accompany them and introduce them to other parishioners. No sign ups are needed! Thank you.

Celebrating With Our Lutheran Friends

We continue to build our fellowship with one another. Please know we are invited to participate in the following meetings at First Lutheran:

  • Tuesdays - Silent Meditation Noon to 12:30 pm
  • Wednesday Nights - Pot-luck Supper and Sacred Journey (Via Sacre) Worship Service.

Via Sacre is an alternative form of worship held every Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM; it is filled with candlelight, time for meditation and prayer, Bible readings and sermon, and the sharing of Communion – and community. Each week may be a little different without any set liturgy, but there is plenty of music – both in the Taizé tradition and others with upbeat rhythms. Additionally there is a community pot-luck supper offered before at 6:00 PM. All are welcome to bring a dish and join for food and fellowship prior to the worship service.

Movie Theology for November

In honor of Thanksgiving, our next Movie matinee feature presentation is Planes, Trains and Automobiles. The 1987 film was directed by John Hughes and stars John Candy and Steve Martin. Neal, played by Martin, is a high-strung business executive in NYC for a business meeting who wants to get back to his family in Chicago in time for Thanksgiving. Del, played by Candy is a kindhearted, but irritating traveling salesman of shower curtain rings who bumps into Neal on a flight out of LaGuardia. Together, they experience delays of all types, putting them together for more than Neal can take. It’s a bittersweet romp through laughter, joy, sadness and tears. The film is 92 minutes long. We will be screening it on Sunday, November 19 (the third Sunday this month instead of the second, due to a scheduling conflict) at 2:00 pm in Walden Hall. Please bring your favorite beverage. We’ve got the popcorn!

See you at the movies!
