A Prayer for our Community in Transition

Almighty God, you know the needs of your Church in every place: look graciously upon the people of Saint Mary’s and grant us the guidance of your Holy Spirit as we seek a new Rector for this parish. Guide the members of our Search Committee as they labor to be faithful in seeking your will. Inspire those who will discern with us, that each may be responsive to Your call. Give us wisdom and confidence in your timing, and in all things help us to seek the path you have set for us to follow. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Search Committee Corner

The Search Committee announced its call for our next rector early last month. Since then, a steady stream of individuals has indicated the “wish to discern with us” about the position. As of November 1, the number had reached 1. We’re obviously excited at the response. But the rules of our Diocese of Massachusetts prevent us from processing any application until November 17, the day after our deadline for applying. The Diocese also requires committee members to take a short course of anti-bias training before then. Scheduled for next week, the training is intended to ensure that we treat all applicants equally as we examine their résumés, sermons, and personal materials. We’ll tell you more about the process in this space next week.

If you have any questions or comments for us, please email them to [email protected].

Prayer Requests

If you have additions to our Parish Prayer List, please fill out this,

Online Prayer Request Form There are also always paper forms available in the rear of the church or our parish office.

DON'T FORGET!
We set our clocks back an hour this weekend!

A Very Special Sunday at Saint Mary's for All Saints' Sunday

Please join us this weekend to remember all those whom we have loved and lost. We are also honored to be celebrating the Baptism of a Father and son this Sunday. Help us welcome these two beautiful souls into our church family. Thank you.

Flower Dedications

Please click here for the online signup form. Flower arrangements can be donated for so many different reasons whether it is in loving memory of a deceased loved one, in celebration of a joyous event, a wedding, a baptism, a graduation, or in thanksgiving for something important in your life. We are very blessed to have a team of talented flower guild members who always work to create beautiful arrangements holding your intentions in their hearts. We also have a paper sign-up on the bulletin board in the sunroom as well. Please note that dates do need to be shared as we have a large community to honor and celebrate together. There are NO flowers during Advent or Lent. You are welcome to dedicate Altar Arrangements during Advent but please understand the arrangements will not include flowers, just seasonal greens.

Thank you!

Tea on The Terrace/ Coffee Hour

We are always looking for more hosts and hostesses.

Please be sure to check the bulletin board in the sunroom in order to sign-up. You are welcome to co-host with a friend if you desire. We have allowed for 2 volunteer slots each week although, you are welcome to host solo as well. This is a crucial way for us to build community and welcome newcomers. Thank you very much for your help with this ministry.

Be a Greeter

To help support a culture of welcoming at St. Mary’s, please consider showing up 15–20 minutes early to stand at one of our entry doors (the main Walden hall entry being the most important) to say hello and provide directions to any newcomers. Welcome to Saint. Mary’s buttons are available at each of the entries. If available after the service, please stand next to Father Scott to invite newcomers to enjoy a coffee downstairs. If possible, accompany them and introduce them to other parishioners. No sign ups are needed! Thank you.

Saint Mary's POP UP Market and Bakery

Items “Made with love by Saint Mary’s Elves and their friends.”

This market table will have handcrafts, jewelry, preserves, baked goods, bouquets, houseplants, whatever parishioners make and wish to donate that week. It will always be a fun and different mix.

We hope that on two weekends, November 18-19 and December 16-17, our fabulous Saint Mary’s bakers will help us present a full blown bake sale for our holiday shopping. We request that donors label and price their donations if possible. What would your “elf self” like to make? All funds raised will be divided equally between Saint Mary’s Admin and Outreach. Any questions? Reach out to Beth Hearn.

Celebrating With Our Lutheran Friends

We continue to build our fellowship with one another. Please know we are invited to participate in the following meetings at First Lutheran:

  • Tuesdays - Meditation and Reiki Group meets at 12pm
  • Wednesday Nights - Sacred Journey (Via Sacre) Worship Service.

Via Sacre is an alternative form of worship held every Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM; it is filled with candlelight, time for meditation and prayer, Bible readings and sermon, and the sharing of Communion – and community. Each week may be a little different without any set liturgy, but there is plenty of music – both in the Taizé tradition and others with upbeat rhythms.

A Call to Serve from Cape Cod Council of Churches

WINTER CLOTHING DONATIONS WANTED - Last Call!

As we enter the cooler weather, we are invited by the Cape Cod Council of Churches to participate in the next phase of collecting donations for our newly housed neighbors at the Supplemental and Temporary Emergency Shelters (TES) on the Cape.

Many of you responded to our Call to Action this summer when we responded rapidly with supplies of essential goods for the families first placed at Joint Base. Since then, many congregations have reached out asking how to be of help.  We are ready to launch our next phase of assistance, hoping this will provide opportunities for involvement that do not stretch resources for those who might have already stepped forward this summer.

Currently, Joint Base Cape Cod is housing 62 families. At present, an additional 25 families are sheltered in a hotel in Yarmouth, and 27 families in a Bourne hotel.  All are placed by the State of Massachusetts after entering the country legally, and after qualifying for shelter placement following strict State guidelines.

The Council will be collecting essential winter wear for these men, women and children through.  Saint Mary's will accept donations in marked bins in our sunroom.

Thank you!
