MES-Operated Co-Generation Facility Wins Safety Best Practices Award

The MES-operated Co-Generation Facility at the Eastern Correctional Institution won a SERMA Safety & Risk Management Best Practice Award for developing a new Standard Operating Procedure which has substantially improved employee safety. In 2013, MES employees wrote 24 Job Hazard Analyses and trained all plant personnel on each JHA. All plant personnel take part in the monthly preventative maintenance inspections of ladders, harnesses/lanyards, eye wash stations, fire extinguishers and exit lighting. And every morning at the Plant meeting, the plant safety coordinator discusses near misses, PPE inspections and general safety awareness. They were injury-free in 2013.
