Upcoming City Council Meeting Highlight
On Tuesday, October 1, the City Council will hear the following items of interest:
Item #27: Recommendation to refer to the Marine Advisory Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Government Operations and Efficiency Committee for consideration of naming the new Junior Lifeguard Facility the Pat Flynn and Dick Miller Junior Lifeguard Facility (Authored by Councilmember Duggan). Pat Flynn and Dick Miller established the Long Beach Junior Lifeguard Program in 1971 with just 63 participants and grew it to be a premiere junior lifeguard program in Southern California. Last year, the City opened the new Junior Lifeguard facility and Councilmember Duggan submitted this item to kick off the process to name the new facility in their honor.

Living in Southern California, we've all felt those tremors, and it is important to me to ensure that our community is as ready as possible. This event is an opportunity for us to come together, learn, and be proactive in protecting our families, neighbors, seniors, and children.
Highlights of the event include an earthquake simulator to feel the power of an earthquake in a safe, controlled environment, Quake Heroes movie showings and panel discussions at 10:30 am and 1:00 pm (registration required), and expert-led booths to gather essential preparedness tips to ensure you’re quake ready. Food will be available for purchase by Taco Shore and Dominos.
