Celebrate the Groundbreaking of Belmont Plaza Pool
Join us from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 30, for a groundbreaking celebration of the Belmont Plaza Pool at Termino Avenue and Olympic Plaza. We will also be joined by special guests Jessica Hardy, Olympic gold and bronze medalist, and Ryder Dodd, Olympic bronze medalist.
Originally built in 1968, the Belmont Plaza Pool closed in 2013 due to seismic concerns, and a temporary pool was installed while the City worked toward construction of a new permanent facility. That vision is now becoming a reality. Construction of the new Belmont Plaza Pool is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2028.

Community Crisis Response Dashboard
In July 2023, the City launched the Community Crisis Response (CCR) Team in West Long Beach. The non-law enforcement team, made up of a Crisis Intervention Specialist, Public Health Nurse, and Peer Navigator, responds to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. In July 2025, the program expanded citywide.
Since its launch, the CCR Team has been dispatched 2,287 times, with 62% of calls resolved on scene.
The CCR Team can be dispatched through the non-emergency line at (562) 435-6711, or through 911 in an emergency. The team currently operates from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and continues to expand and refine its services. I encourage you to learn more about the team and explore its calls-for-service dashboard.
Later this summer, City staff are expected to return with a CORE Strategy Framework, a severity-based approach for responding to mental health and substance use-related calls using all available tools. Stay tuned for updates.
