Upcoming City Council Meeting Highlight


On Tuesday, December 17, the City Council will hear the following items of interest:


Item #20: Recommendation to approve the Fiscal Year 2024 third and final departmental and fund budget appropriation adjustments in accordance with existing City Council policy.

Summary of Previous City Council Meeting


On Tuesday, December 10, the City Council heard the following items of interest:


Item #19: Recommendation to request City Manager to work with Department of Public Works on a Council presentation regarding our localized flooding management response plan, and report back to City Council in 45 days. This item passed unanimously.


Item #20: Recommendation to request City Manager work with Department of Health and Human Services on a Council presentation regarding the status and implementation of the Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operations (MEHKO) ordinance and report back to City Council within 90 days. This item passed unanimously.


On Thursday, December 12, the City Council heard the following item of interest:


Item #1: Recommendation to declare ordinance amending chapter 3.62 of the Long Beach Municipal Code Subsections 3.62.030.A, 3.62.030.B, 3.62.030.C, 3.62.050.A, 3.62.050.B, 3.62.050.C, 3.62.140.B, 3.62.140.C, and 3.62.140.D relating to the City’s transactions and use tax to be administered by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration to effectuate the language from County of Los Angeles Measure “A”, read the first time and laid over to the next regular meeting of the City Council for final reading; declaring the urgency thereof, and declaring that this ordinance shall take effect immediately. 40th Annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade

District 3 staff and I were joined by the Lowell Elementary Girl Scout Troop and Long Beach Sea Scouts at the 40th Annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade! Thank you to the Belmont Shore Business Association for organizing this holiday tradition for our community each year.


John Morris, the original Grand Marshal of the very first Belmont Shore Christmas Parade 40 years ago, returned as this year's Grand Marshall leading the way with his Kazoo Band. Thank you to Belmont Shore Business Association's Executive Director, Heather Kern, for organizing this fun holiday tradition!

Zaferia Holiday Mixer

Last week, Zaferia hosted their annual Holiday Mixer, bringing the community together to celebrate the season. It was fun contributing to their toy drive by donating a book from Pulp Fiction Comics! Thank you to Zaferia Business Association's Executive Director, Marissa Pfeifer, for organizing this event.

My office is hosted a Naples Seawall Community Meeting at the Long Beach Yacht Club where the Director of Public Works and City Manager shared the latest updates on the Naples Seawall Replacement Project.

Joe Rogers Restroom Renovation Update

There was significant progress on the Joe Rogers restroom renovation this week. The contractor is continuing the installation of plumbing fixtures and has completed the installation of several wall partitions.


The Joe Rogers Field Improvements Project involves the renovation of the existing restroom with updated partitions, finishes, fixtures, and paint. Additionally, two existing water fountains are being updated with new hydration stations, and ADA improvements in the parking lot.

Infrastructure Action in the Greenbelt Heights Neighborhood

My office hosted a community meeting at Recreation Park Community Center to discuss the Marina Trunk Sewer Relief Project, scheduled for construction in 2025, and to introduce the Greenbelt planning process. Representatives from the LA County Sanitation District and Parks, Recreation and Marine's Director, Brent Dennis, provided project details and answered questions from residents.
