Green organic bins are rolling out – The City’s Residential Organics Collection Program is expanding by service day. If your trash day is Tuesday or Wednesday, organics pickup begins August 12 & 13; Thursday and Friday service starts October 9 & 10. Learn more by visiting here: longbeach.gov/LBOrganics.

Camerata Singers - TONIGHT - Join me at Rec Park Bandshell to listen to Long Beach’s a cappella group Camerata Singers with Live at the Shell at 4:00 pm tonight!

Movies on the Block – TONIGHT – The Greenbelt Heights neighborhood is showing Shrek at 8:00 pm on Ninth Street between Grand and Mira Mar. Bring a chair or blanket, enjoy free popcorn, and connect with neighbors.

Friends of Belmont Shore Summer Concert – On Thursday, August 14, at Mother’s Beach, the FoBS will host Rolling Stones tribute band Jumping Jack Flash from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Free and family-friendly.

Budget meetings are underway – The FY 2026 budget process is in full swing. Public meetings this month are your opportunity to learn about proposed spending, ask questions, and share your priorities.

4th & Termino Summer Fest – Celebrate summer with live music, food, and local vendors on Saturday, August 16, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at 4th & Termino.

| | Upcoming City Council Meeting Highlight | | |
On Tuesday, August 12, the City Council will be presenting the budgets for Police and Fire. Councilmember Duggan is interested in how this budget improves emergency response times for Police and Fire, and how the Police's budget addresses traffic safety enforcement and nuisance crimes. The City Council will also hear the following item of interest:
Item #27: Strengthen the Long Beach’s Values Act and reaffirm the City’s commitment to protecting families, uplifting dignity, and honoring the contributions of Long Beach’s diverse immigrant communities with the immediate adoption of the policy recommendations and actions set forth in this City Council Letter and in accordance with the Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget recommendations.

| | Summary of Previous City Council Meeting | | |
On Tuesday, August 5, the City Council was presented with the FY26 Budget and Capital Improvement Budget. Please view the presentation here. Councilmember Duggan spoke about how the City needs to start demanding that more of the oil revenue generated in Long Beach stays in Long Beach. She also stated that she looks forward to hearing how this year's budget addresses: police response times, nuisance crimes; traffic safety; and improving streets, curbs, and sidewalks. National Night Out 2025 in District 3 | |
Last Tuesday, after City Council, I had the opportunity to attend multiple National Night Out events! I connected with residents, answered questions, and met neighbors across our district.
A huge thank you to the Long Beach Police Department for all their hard work and dedication to keeping our neighborhoods safe!

Residential Organics Collection Program Update | |
The City of Long Beach is continuing the phased rollout of its Residential Organics (Green Cart) Collection Program this month, as mandated by State Senate Bill 1383. City-serviced households will receive a new green cart up to 2.5 weeks before service begins.
While your cart may arrive early, collection will not begin until the service start dates listed below. Additional details, including collection tips and accepted materials, will be mailed directly to households ahead of their start date.
• Monday service: Started June 2025
• Tuesday & Wednesday service: Starts August 12–13, 2025
• Thursday & Friday service: Starts October 9–10, 2025

Care Closet LBC - Ocean Blvd Clean-Up | |
Care Closet has done it again! In response to concerns about increased trash along Ocean Boulevard and in the beach parking lots, my office partnered with Care Closet. Their team cleaned sidewalks and parking lots from Bay Shore Avenue to Bennett Avenue.
Let's work together to keep our beaches clean: "Leave no trash, take three pieces."

Bushfire Kitchen is Now OPEN! | Last week, I joined Bushfire Kitchen’s grand opening, along with the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit Long Beach, to welcome their family owned and operated business to District 3. If you are in the Traffic Circle area, take some time to stop by for delicious eats (especially their empanadas) and welcome the Bushfire Kitchen team to our community. |

National Night Out 2025
Long Beach Police East Division at Stearns Park
| Maria Delgado, District 3 Field Deputy, and our high school interns attended East Division’s National Night Out at Stearns Park. The interns had a great time meeting our Long Beach Police officers and learning about all the services the department provides. |

Leeway Sailing Center hosted the 59th Annual Seafest Regatta last week! 22 sailors on three different classes of vessels participated. The wind and weather were perfect and the sailors had a great time practicing the skills they learned this season. Valerie Scott, from ABYC, took top honors clinching the Mayor’s Cup perpetual trophy. Congrats to all the competitors! |

Growing the Greenbelt: Pull Together Event | Meet us at the Red Car Greenbelt on Saturday, August 30, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. We will be joining the Belmont Heights Community Association team to pull weeds with neighbors and help keep the area looking its best. |

FREE Baby Classes at the JCC | Alpert Jewish Community Center Long Beach is offering free “J Baby” classes this summer for babies from 0 to 12 months and their caregivers. Classes feature music, movement, art activities and swim lessons at no cost through August 31. Sinkhole Fixed on the Peninsula | A collapsed pipe caused a sinkhole on Ocean Boulevard in the Peninsula neighborhood. The City’s Engineering team assessed the issue, and our crews got to work digging up the affected area to make repairs. They finished this week! |
