Hello Kristina,
This past Tuesday, the City Council approved the Fiscal Year 2025 budget. As we work to close the budget deficits now and in future years, this budget focused on improving core City services.
Please consider attending the September 17 City Council meeting as Council is considering a recommendation to approve a support position on Proposition 36. If you are unable to attend, you can voice your opinion by emailing CityClerk@longbeach.gov. See more details below in the Council Update section referenced by Item 24.
Join us this Sunday at the Recreation Park Bandshell for a special Long Beach Gives event hosted by the Friends of Recreation Park Bandshell. Come support more than 70 nonprofit organizations while enjoying live performances, booths, food trucks, and a variety of family-friendly activities.
Lastly, our Green Port Tour is now fully booked! Please note that boarding the boat will be limited to those with confirmed individual registrations.
As always, the District 3 team and I are here to help. You can reach us at District3@longbeach.gov or (562) 570-6300.

Upcoming City Council Meeting Highlight
On Tuesday, September 17, the City Council will hear the following items of interest:
Item #20: Recommend approval of the ZoneIn: City Core plan, which will update the zoning along Anaheim Street to comply with the City's state approved Housing Element. Click here to see the interactive map with details about the updated zoning. Click here for more details.
Item #24: Recommendation to request City Council approve a support position on Proposition 36. This item stemmed from the Report on Proposed Legislation Related to Retail Theft, Drug Use, and "Smash and Grab" Crimes Councilmember Duggan co-authored in June. The Intergovernmental Relations Committee heard Staff's report in response and recommended the City take a support position.

Summary of Previous City Council Meeting
On Tuesday, September 10, the City Council passed the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget. Please see a few highlights below:
- One-time funding of $500,000 for transportation safety improvements. Councilmember Duggan requested an additional $500,000 for neighborhood traffic safety improvements and $250,000 was prioritized for midyear budget adjustments.
- Adding 10 positions to bring in-house a concrete program to better address concrete work like curbs and sidewalks throughout the city in a timely and efficient manner.
- One-time funding of $1.3 million for High Crime Focus Team to proactively address violent crime citywide.
- Adding four positions for additional parking enforcement citywide, including night shift enforcement, to deter illegal parking.
- Adding a position to the Beach Clean-up Crew for $96,825 and one-time funding of $80,980 to purchase a barber surf rake to support the Beach Clean-up Crew and increase the frequency of the City’s beachfront waterline clean-up.
- Adding two positions to serve as City Council liaisons in the Public Works and Community Development Departments to increase responsiveness, consistency, quicker turnaround and more proactive communication. This will help us respond faster to residents by having a dedicated person to get information.
- Adding two structural positions to support Homeless Response Services and one-time funding of $370,996 to purchase a fleet vehicle truck for targeted trash removal in homeless encampments.
- Additional Community Services Assistants (CSAs) in the Police Department to reduce response times for Priority 3, non-violent calls for service, and free up Patrol Officers to respond to higher priority calls.
- $2,800,000 for the Alamitos Bay Water Quality Project
- $200,000 for the Greenbelt project in Greenbelt Heights
