Vol. 02 | Issue 2

January 13, 2024

Hello Kristina,

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Join us at the 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Celebration at 10:00 am today at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Anaheim Street.

This week was about connecting with residents after the holidays. I was glad to attend the Naples Island Garden Club, State of the City, Veterans Commission Holiday Celebration, Island Village Homeowners Association meeting, and Community Hospital Community Meeting, to discuss how we can work together this coming year to address issues our neighborhoods face.

As promised, there will be a follow up community meeting on the Alamitos Bay Water Circulation Project on January 29 at 5:30 pm. Check below for more details!

This newsletter will cover exciting topics such as council updates about sidewalk vendors, welcoming our new staff member, and Aquarium Night.

Thank you for reading the newsletter. As always, the 3rd District team and I are here to help. Please reach out to us at District3@longbeach.gov or (562) 570-6300.

Sincerely,

Kristina Duggan

Council Update

Upcoming City Council Meeting Highlight

On January 16, the City Council will hear the following items of interest:

  • Item #14 - Sidewalk Vendor Ordinance - The sidewalk vending ordinance will set the City's regulations for sidewalk vendors, which are not in place now. This ordinance needs to be in compliance with SB 946 and SB 972. This item will need to be approved by the Coastal Commission before going into effect in the Coastal Zone. During the last discussion, Councilmember Duggan raised concerns about the City's ability to make sure sidewalk vending businesses are compliant with the proposed requirements.
