Upcoming City Council Meeting Highlight
On Tuesday, September 3, the City Council will hear the following items of interest:
Item #26: Budget Hearing for Health and Human Services and Economic Development for the Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget. See the presentation here.
Item #28: Request the City Attorney draft a resolution recognizing every 8th of September as "908 Day", a citywide celebration of pride in the City of Long Beach.
Also on Tuesday, September 3 at 3:00 pm, the Budget Oversight Committee will hear the following topic of interest:
Item #2: Receive and file a presentation on Grow Long Beach, in addition to revenue opportunities (inclusive of the proposed regional tax) as a part of the November 2024 Ballot.

Summary of Previous City Council Meeting
On Tuesday, August 27, the City Council heard the following items of interest:
Item #15: Recommendation to conduct a Budget Hearing to receive and discuss an overview of the Proposed Fiscal Year 2024 Budget for the departments of Community Development and Library Services. See the presentation here.
For Community Development, Councilmember Duggan highlighted the incredible number of permits and inspections processed each year. Also, Councilmember Duggan appreciated the addition of staff to better regulate Short-Term Rentals and a Council liaison position to help improve responsiveness.
For the Library Department, Councilmember Duggan stated she is excited to get the Bay Shore Library project reopened, and she highlighted the focus of expanding library hours while adding support to make our libraires safer.
Also on Tuesday, August 27, the Budget Oversight Committee heard the following items of interest:
Item #2: Recommendation to receive and file an overview on the use of Measure A infrastructure project status and plans, Elevate 28, and future financial outlook. Councilmember Duggan discussed the over $1 billion backlog of maintenance needed on our streets, sidewalks, curbs, and alleys, and the need to address our streets on the Worst Street Index.
Item #3: Recommendation to receive and file a report on the Crisis Response Team from Health Department.
