Up-To-Date Facts On PPP, State Budget/Taxes, And Mandates

The federal CARES Act established the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) for small businesses suffering losses from the COVID-19 pandemic. Unless Minnesota conforms to federal tax law, these forgivable loans will be taxed in Minnesota.

Governor Walz’s 2021 budget includes total general fund tax increases of $3.154 billion over next 4 years, and new payroll tax increasing taxes by $2.2 billion over 3 years. If enacted, Minnesota will move even higher in national tax rankings, making the economy less competitive for all businesses.

SBA Prioritizes Smallest Of Small Businesses In The Paycheck Protection Program

Small businesses employ nearly half of the American workforce; they create 2 out of 3 net new private-sector jobs; they reinvest 68% of revenues to build and sustain communities. To further promote equitable relief for America’s mom-and-pop businesses, the SBA has established a 14-day, exclusive PPP loan application period for businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 20 employee that ends on March 9, 2021. Governor Walz Announces Timeline For Vaccinating Minnesotans

The path to the end of the pandemic starts with taking care of seniors. We know Minnesotans aged 65+ are among the most vulnerable to serious COVID-19 complications. The plan is to vaccinate at least 70% of Minnesotans aged 65+ before expanding eligibility to other groups. Minnesota aims to reach this benchmark by the end of March. Click here to view the detailed timeline.
