FROM THE CHAMBER
Resonate Community Church and Shakopee Chamber Partner to Help West Middle School Complete Facelift

Dear Chamber Members,

One of the best things I've witnessed about Shakopee in the 9 years that I've been here is that this community is fiercely loyal to supporting and taking care of one another. And in that Shakopee spirit, we've agreed to partner with Chamber member, Resonate Church, to complete a painting project at West Middle School, and we need your help.

West Middle School has been a hub for Shakopee for decades. Members of our community have known it as a high school as well as a junior high. People went through its doors for plays, concerts, sporting events, and community functions. This building has become "home."

In the fall of 2018, West reopened as a Middle School, housing sixth through eighth graders. Principal Lori Link and her staff wanted the building to feel ready for a new group of younger students. However, the building had been well used. Newer buildings in the growing district have been the center of attention for construction and renovation funds, leaving the older building feeling dated and in need of a face lift.

Ms. Link and her staff set out to give the building a much-needed coat of paint, a daunting task given the building's size and the staff's regular responsibilities. They reached out to the community for help, and members of the community responded. Before school opened in 2018, teams were able to paint roughly half of the building's indoor common spaces.

This summer, we want to finish the job. Principal Link spent much of her summer painting last year. This summer, Resonate Community Church and the Shakopee Chamber are partnering together to help. We are inviting Chamber businesses, parents, and members of the community to finish updating West Middle School. This building remains a critical part of our community. And we want to free up our school staff to prepare for students to return in the fall. Let's paint West Middle School together.
