How have you been
blessed this year?

Generosity - How we are giving back to Promising Pages
This year, for every new or increased pledge, we are matching $11 toward Promising Pages. Promising Pages is a nonprofit organization that collects new and donated books and shares them with children living in the Charlotte Area Book Desert: those with few, if any, books at home. Their mission is to provide ownership of books to underserved children and cultivate a lifelong love of reading through innovative literacy programs and partnerships. Fueled by studies showing that children who can’t read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school, Promising Pages provides more than 180,000 free books annually

Our own Loaves & Fishes here at Holy Comforter has been distributing books through the Promising Pages for quite some time. As Sarah Lofton explains: "We give the books to the clients who come to our mobile pantry…it is a wonderful program.  I just want our congregation to know that the books they contribute remain 'close to home'."

Where does the match come from? $10 comes from the Rector's Discretionary Fund and $1 comes from Father Greg personally.

The Vestry has received a slate of candidates for Vestry from the Nominating Committee and additional parish nominations. The meeting will be followed by a bilingual service at approximately 11 am to allow us all to worship together.

To help us all reconnect, we will be printing a new parish directory. Please submit an updated photo of yourself or your family to directory@holycomfortercharlotte.org by November 24th! The contact information will be printed from our online directory, Realm. In order to be included, your privacy settings in Realm must allow anyone in the church to view your contact information. This setting may be changed by logging into www.onrealm.org, or by emailing us at directory@holycomfortercharlotte.org and requesting we make your information available.

Also, for our extra little friends, we will have special caregivers for children under two years old.
Celebration of Mother Amanda!

Last year, due  to the pandemic, we did not get to properly celebrate when Mother Amanda was called to be the Rector of The Church of the Good Shepherd in York, SC. The Bible As It Is
With Tom Cooper
Tom Cooper will be exploring various themes in the Bible, some corresponding with the lectionary texts while at other times the class will look at the relationship between Old and New Testament subject matter. For example, how Jesus had two fathers. These will be more in the nature of discussions rather than lectures, and those attending these classes will be invited to introduce their own ideas as we explore one of the most interesting books ever written. Between the 8 and 10am services in Room 207. Class materials can be downloaded from the website at this link.

YOU’RE INVITED:  Tell Your Holy Comforter Story!
Have you been inspired by hearing other’s stories about the difference Holy Comforter has made in their lives? Now it’s your turn.  We want to create a space on our website and in our services to share more of our stories.  Tell us:
  • What first drew you to Holy Comforter and what keeps you here?
  • How have you been blessed by your time at Holy Comforter?
  • How does LOVE grow here?
  • How is God at work here?
Reflect on any of these and send in your story in 500 words or less, send in a picture that captures it, or take an iPhone video and send it to Trish Stukbauer at trishs@holycomfortercharlotte.org or call her for more information at 704-332-7141 ext. 101.
A Note on Sunday Services

Also, if you are the first one in the pew, please sit in the middle! This makes it easier for those who arrive later to safely space out in the pews. We are currently sitting in every other pew to allow ample room for social distancing.

Services may include masked singers, which can elevate the possibility of COVID-19 transmission. If you are not fully vaccinated, you are at a higher susceptibility of contracting COVID-19, please weigh your risk accordingly before deciding whether to participate.
A note to group leaders
If you are planning on hosting an event on campus, please let either Holly or Jessica know so that they can ensure that there is a sufficient space for your needs.
Deadline for the Blast
As we prepare to return to more in-person events and our calendars start to fill up, here's a reminder that the deadline for the Blast and the Sunday Spirit is the Tuesday before publication.Send information to Trish as early as possible to ensure inclusion.
