Friends of the Farm-
Happy July! Happy Bobby Bonilla Day, for fellow baseball fans out there, (follow here
for explanation and link to further weekend reading). And lastly, happy Independence Day weekend!
Whew! Aside from all that's going on, we're truly excited about this week's produce. We're happy to share the first our our summer stone fruit - welcome Mirabelle Plums!
Originating from the Lorraine region of Northeast France (bordered with Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg) Mirabelle Plums are known to be sweet and coveted for their almost tropical flavors that translate well to pastries, brandy, and preserves. A timely pairing as today also marks the start of the 2022 Tour de France.
This will just be the start of our summer stone fruit season. Look forward to mixed varieties of pluots, plums, and more as our orchard fruits continue to ripen in the weeks ahead.
A produce note about this week's cucumbers- this variety is developed by Chef Dan Barber's team at Row 7 Seeds. These 7802 Cucumbers are ideal for pickling or....GRILLING! Try them halved lengthwise, marinated and grilled over medium high heat until charred. The flavors work nicely with a touch of yogurt or labneh.
For some July 4th brings reminders of fireworks, but for me it's always been my favorite part of a summer BBQ...pie.
In your CSA box this week you'll find the ingredients to put together a strawberry rhubarb pie. Recipe included below, or get creative with your own rendition.
Lastly, we welcome you to also enjoy our weekly curated music playlist.
We often like to sprinkle in music that we've enjoyed as a team on a day here at the farm. This week we found ourselves belting out If I Could Turn Back Time. Now it's your turn...
Kate Wolf's music was also celebrated this past week with last weekend being the last annual edition of the beloved Kate Wolf Music Festival. Across the Great Divide is a favorite from her catalog and a welcome dose of Americana and Bay Area folk music. Red, White, and Bluegrass - there's also a healthy dose of banjo picking, and fiddle to honor this American music style this week. We close out this week's music mix with an American classic- the Muppets. Fozzie Bear brings it home with his rendition of America (from the Muppet Movie Soundtrack) Enjoy!
All our best from the farm,
Tom & William and Live Oak Farm team
