Friends of the Farm-
Happy Friday and welcome back to another week of Live Oak Farm CSA...
What a beautiful day! What a pleasure to welcome today's blue skies and feel the warmth of the sun. We hope you're enjoying the new shift in Daylight Savings time and looking ahead to more time outside in the Spring weather surely ahead.
This week we celebrate some new produce items and invite you to play with the flavors of bright citrus and bitter Escarole in your cooking this weekend. Spigariello Raab is also another fun ingredient item in this week's produce box. Simplicity rules the day, and I love this vegetable lightly grilled or blanched with a squeeze of Meyer Lemon juice, coarse black pepper, and fresh shaved Pecorino Romano cheese.
For our recipe this week we shift to a featured cocktail! We lean on citrus season to highlight this week's Mandarin Oranges to bring a fresh new look to a classic Margarita. There is lots of room to experiment here with Tequila / Mezcal of your choosing, along with creativity for rim garnish tom compliment. The flavor of the Mandarins and Cointreau / Triple Sec work nicely to offer a bright orange flavor to your palate.
Lastly, we welcome you to enjoy our weekly music playlist...
This week's mix, like our Mandarin spin on a classic Margarita, brings new takes & artists to some well-known standard songs. Rare Earth with What I'd Say (Ray Charles), Flesh Failures (Let the Sun Shine In) with Julie Driscoll & Brian Auger (from the musical Hair), The Feelies covering Louie Louie (The Kingsmen), and even Grace Slick covering a stripped-down, lofi version of Somebody to Love (from her very own contributions to Jefferson Airplane). Have fun with this one.
All our best from the farm,
Tom & William and Live Oak Farm team
