Friends of the Farm-

Happy Friday and welcome back to another week of Live Oak Farm CSA...

We're moving and grooving here at the farm! Tomatoes, peppers, summer squash, and cucumbers are all growing and showing progress. We have some of our first tomatoes on the vine and trellising systems laid this week to support this new growth. We also have made strides in the past week to bolster our culinary herb program. Varieties such as Pineapple Mint, Strawberry Mint, Chocolate Mint as well as Lemon Thyme, Lime Thyme, Thai Basil, Winter Savory, Lavender, Chamomile and more are all looking especially healthy. We love providing local chefs and Bay Area restaurants with this expanded palette of herbs and celebrating the nuance of each variety of herb.

With Monday being Memorial Day, we welcome the unofficial start of Summer and wish you all a very happy holiday weekend!

For our recipe this week we highlight curly endive. Different than the Belgian Endives you may first associate with the name endive, curly endive is great in adding texture in salads while also shinning when being sautéed, braised, steamed or chopped. As a bitter green it does hold a similar taste structure to say Radicchio or Escarole, but a bit more mild and light on its feet and tender. Pairing it with bitter citrus such as grapefruit works well with the support of bright Meyer Lemon juice in this week's recipe.

Lastly, we welcome you to enjoy our weekly music playlist...

The music world lost one of its queens this past week with the death of Tina Turner. Her discography is deep, both as a solo artist and a contributor to Ike & Tina Turner. Her music

drips of soul and struggle. Of all the albums we could have picked, the 1972 album release Feel Good by Ike & Tina Turner has some of my favorite of their music of this period. Bolic is the track I've selected to pay homage to our queen in this week's mix, but Chopper, I Like It, and Black Coffee are other favorites. I encourage you to give the full album a listen and also visit its 1971 precursor live album What You Hear is What You Get: Live at Carnegie Hall for full celebration of her unmatched vocal capabilities. Enjoy!

All our best from the farm,

Tom & William and Live Oak Farm team
