Friends of the Farm-

Happy Friday! This week we celebrate the last of our heirloom tomato crop, the arrival of colder temperatures, a healthy dose of rains at the start of the week, continued greenhouse seeding, bed flipping, and more winter produce planting in our fields.

Your produce boxes are very full this week! Lots of good stuff to play with in your kitchens this weekend. One of my favorites is the arrival of our Cheddar Cauliflower heads. I've been enjoying mine roasted with tahini, za'atar, and toasted sesame seeds. Great too served in combination with grilled radishes, braised radish greens, and Kale for a hearty vegetable-driven dinner on a cold night.

A reminder that we will have CSA next week, but we will be taking a holiday pause the week of Thanksgiving. So no regularly scheduled produce boxes the week of November 25th. In lieu of your regular delivery / pick-up we invite you to shop our farm stand (this will remain open to the public over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend). We are also offering a special Thanksgiving holiday CSA option for delivery / pick up on Tuesday 11/22. Much like we've done in years past, this is being built as a holiday supplement that can be customized with farm produce, farm raised meats (chicken, lamb, squab, ect), tea, jam, ect. We thank you for you support of our farm and welcome the opportunity to be part of the bounty of fresh local foods on your holiday table this season. Reply to this email for interest or to customize your holiday order today.

This week's feature recipe highlights our jalapeños for an easy at-home version of Jalapeño poppers. We welcome you to customize the recipe to make it your own. Great as a snack, holiday appetizer, or accompaniment to dinner this week. Give them a try!

Lastly, we welcome you to enjoy our weekly music playlist.

Rhapsody in the Rain by Lou Christie was a favorite this week as we got wet in Tuesday's soaking rains. Perhaps the most fun to say on this week's mix is Hocus Pocus by Focus! Rock meets yodeling- yes you read that right...

As if that wasn't enough, the dessert of this week's playlist comes by way of two curiously chocolate-titled tracks The Zoo's Chocolate Moose and Chocolate Piano by Orang-Utan.

Enjoy this week's edition!

All our best from the farm,

Live Oak Farm Playlist Pairing

Jalapeño Poppers

Ingredients:

All Jalapeños

8oz. Cream Cheese, softened

1/4 Cup Cilantro, finely chopped

1/3 Cup Scallions, thinly sliced

uncooked Bacon, strips halved (1 strip for each pepper)

1 Lime, zested

1 Garlic clove, finely minced

Salt & Pepper, to taste

Method:

Begin by lining a baking sheet with aluminum foil and topping with a wire rack. Preheat oven to 400F. Halve Jalapeños lengthwise and use a spoon to extract the seeds from each pepper. Set peppers aside. In a separate mixing bowl combine cream cheese, scallions, garlic. lime zest, cilantro, and salt & pepper. Stir well to combine.

Season each Jalapeño with salt & pepper and then begin to fill each pepper with your cream cheese mixture- roughly 2 teaspoons of filling per pepper. Next wrap each pepper with a prepared piece of bacon.

*A reminder that the bacon will shrink when cooking so ensure that your strips of bacon are long enough to cover the entire pepper with some extra length on either end.*

Arrange peppers, cream cheese side up on your wire rack with even spacing.

Bake until the bacon is fully cooked, roughly 25 minutes. Finish by moving your oven rack into the top position and broiling for 2 minutes to allow for crisp bacon and bubbly filling. Remove from oven and allow peppers to cool for 5 minutes before enjoying. Serve warm.

Mark your calendars. Catch our produce and Farmer Tom for a guest appearance at our friend Alexis' Solano County farm - Soul Food Farm. As part of an expanded Christmas Fair with music, food, crafts, farmers, and vendors, we'll be celebrating the holidays with our farm goods on hand. Come enjoy the festivities and say hi. The event runs 9-3PM on Saturday, December 3rd. You can click on the banner above to visit their farm website and get more info. We and our greater Bay Area farming community thanks you!

Compost Tea Tuesdays

Reminder, we offer the free resource of compost tea on tap each Tuesday for our community of home-gardeners and green-thumbs. We've been brewing our own compost tea for our own use but now want to make this resource available to you too. Bring your own reusable vessel and we'll have compost tea here for you. Each Tuesday 8am - 5pm.
