Friends of the Farm-
This week's produce box is a colorful splash of greens, purples, and reds. We'll get back to the greens part with our recipe this week.... We subscribe to the idea of finding a use for all parts of the veggies we grow and the added nutrition, flavors, and creativity that can spawn from this principle. Even our farming is representative of this greater concept. If you've ever joined us here at the farm for a tour you've seen our commitment to edible flowers for partnered restaurant and cocktail programs, roots for edible & medicinal purposes, and leaves & shoots for aromatic herbs and juicing. This week also is the return of our prepared Nasturtium Pesto. We've gotten quite a few requests for its return and will look to have it stocked in our farm stand and CSA appearance a bit more often with the positive feedback. Let us know how best you enjoy it at your home. We're always looking for recipe shares and hearing how your family might use our goods.
Radish tops, Kohlrabi greens, Cauliflower outer leaves and other rich greens like it are deserving of your cooking and dinner table! Trust us, it just requires knowing what to do with them....
One of my favorite things to wake up and make on a weekend morning is a hearty cast iron of braised greens, a few eggs, and hot coffee. This week's recipe is a bit of a spin on this trusted favorite. It's great with a crusty loaf of bread too to sop it all up!
Lastly, we welcome you to enjoy our weekly music playlist.
We get a double dose of a new artist discovery this week...meet Maxayn. Led by female vocalist Maxayn Lewis, former Ikette (backing group for the Ike & Tina Turner Revue), this group is also made up of former musicians that played with Buddy Miles which has also made appearances in previous editions of this playlist. The tracks Trying Days and a cover of the Rolling Stone's Gimme Shelter grace this week's mix. The back-to-back combo of Talking Heads- The Good Thing and Gong Gong Gong III- Ride Your Horse just seemed like a transition that was meant to be. Bulldozers and Dirt and George Clinton's, Do Fries Go With That Shake are us having a bit of fun this week. Hope you enjoy this week's edition!
All our best from the farm,
Tom & William and Live Oak Farm team
