Friends of the Farm-
Welcome all to what is week number one of our expanded Summer Season of CSA from Live Oak Farm! This is our first full quarter of weekly produce boxes from Live Oak Farm and transition from our previous farming as Umbel Roots (Solano County). We thank all who continue to participate and those giving us a try for the first time this season. We're excited to share this service with our Petaluma & Sonoma communities.
Happy Mother's Day weekend to all the Moms out there! We raise a glass to you and sincerely hope there is a dinner made for you this weekend in celebration for all you do.
There's no denying it, strawberry season is upon us! We have bright red, ripe Albions now dotting our fields and we wanted to honor this crop this week in our CSA by doubling up with 2x pints of these fresh berries. The fresh berries are highlighted with a jar of our Strawberry Preserve. Strawberry fever!
Not to worry, we'll keep the veggies coming in the weeks ahead to further compliment this week's fascination with the fruit in front of us.
This week's recipe works to use the sweetness of the strawberries in compliment to the bitterness of the Virtus Radicchio head. A bit of good balsamic vinegar works well in combination of tying all together with a bit of acid and depth of flavor, along with the crunch of some warm roasted hazelnuts.
Wine recommendations from our local pick-up sponsor & Napa friends, Bay Grape return! Check out our Strawberry-friendly pairing with this week's recipe and new wines that you can find in their wine shop this month. Cheers!
Don't forget to tune into this week's edition of our CSA music playlist. Link to our Spotify playlist is attached below to join the groove.
Vaudou Game is a new artist to cross my plate this week and frankly I can't get enough. This week's mix is front loaded with a triplet of his afro-centric music to set the tone and get you dancing into your weekend. Farmer William submitted his own request for this week's playlist Bush's Glycerine. A favorite from his time living & working in restaurants in the Pacific Northwest in the late 90's / early 2000's. Two covers not to miss this week are the interpretations of Whole Lotta Love (The Dynamics) & Don't Think Twice It's Alright (Jerry Reed). A bit of everything for everyone. Heck, even some LL Cool J. Enjoy!
All our best from the farm,
Tom & William and Live Oak Farm team
