“Blessed are the Peacemakers”
Lenten Reflection VI
By the Youth of St. John’s in Sunday Sessions led by Danni Jones
“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.”
Matthew 5:9
“Children of God” are not necessarily children. They are all of God’s people. So, when it says, “Children of God,” know it means all the people of God because we are all his children. Peacemakers are things we need more of. If people had none of them, we would have many wars and no peace would be on earth and it would truly be a bad time. Peacemakers are important to earth. If you see somebody getting treated badly, be a peacemaker.
A Reflection from Fred Rogers:
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers—so many caring people in this world. The purpose of this life is to listen—to yourself, to your neighbor, to your world, and to God and, when the time comes, to respond in as helpful way as you can… from within and without.”
