What You Need to Do This Semester

To continue receiving your scholarship:

1. Find, schedule, participate in, report, and receive final approval for a minimum of 12 hours of qualified community service experiences between December 14, 2024 - April 21, 2025 (see below for more information, including new timeline for submitting hours).
2. Maintain full-time student status by finishing the Spring 2025 semester enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of classes (minimum of four 3-hour classes or equivalent).
3. Finish the Spring 2025 semester with a cumulative GPA of 2.9 or higher.

SIUE Serves: Helping Hands Volunteers station themselves at the entrance of Center Court and assist individuals with accessibility needs get their meals and find accessible seating during lunch and dinner periods.

Volunteers assist individuals around SIUE’s campus. Volunteers are paired with an individual to assist during specific time periods of their day, such as walking to different buildings on campus.

JANUARY 31: Report all hours performed 12/14/24 - 1/31/25. Have at least 4 hours completed and reported.

The timeline for submitting hours has changed to a monthly format, effective immediately. Submit the online Spring 2025 JHS Community Service Report Form by the end of the same month in which the service occurs. If the end of that month has already passed, submit any unreported community service immediately. Do not wait until the April 21 deadline is looming to report your hours.

Combine all service dates occurring in the same month, for the same organization/site/event/experience, on one JHS Community Service Notes* page and one online Spring 2025 JHS Community Service Report Form. Submitting more report forms than necessary wastes your time and increases the number of reports that SIUE staff review, slowing down the final approval process for everyone.

SPRING 2025

JANUARY 31:

Report all hours performed 12/14/24 - 1/31/25. Have at least 4 hours completed and reported.

FEBRUARY 10:

Review Progress Update #1 (email sent to SIUE email).

FEBRUARY 28:

Report all hours performed 2/1/25 - 2/28/25. Have at least 8 hours (total) completed and reported.

MARCH 5:

Review Progress Update #2 (email sent to SIUE email).

MARCH 10 - 14:

Spring Break

MARCH 31:

Report all hours performed 3/1/25 - 3/31/25. Have 12 hours (total) completed and reported.

NOTE: We recommend having all community service completed and reported by March 31 so you have enough time to A) respond to reviewers' questions (if any), B) provide additional information (if requested), and C) to resubmit reports (if needed, with permission only), ALL BEFORE the April 21 deadline.

APRIL 7:

Review Progress Update #3 (email sent to SIUE email).

APRIL 21:

Community Service Reports Due by 11:59 p.m. This is also the deadline to: A) respond to reviewers' questions (if any), B) provide additional information (if requested), and C) to resubmit reports (if needed, with permission only).

APRIL 22 - MAY 9:

Black-Out Dates: Community service performed/reported April 22 - May 9 will not be applied to Johnetta Haley Scholarship requirements. Use this time to concentrate on preparing for final exams and completing final projects.

APRIL 29:

Review Final Progress Update (email sent to SIUE email).

MAY 5 - 9:

Final Exams

MAY 7:

Review Final Status Notification (email sent to SIUE email).

MAY 10:

Community Service for Fall 2025 Begins (Community service completed April 22 - May 9 will not be applied to Johnetta Haley Scholarship requirements.) 

REMINDER:

Reporting and receiving final approval for a minimum of 12 hours of qualified community service experiences between Dec. 14, 2024 - Apr. 21, 2025 is one of the requirements to receive Johnetta Haley Scholarship funds for the Fall 2025 semester.
