Mission & Ministry Moments
"E-Version Edition"
Weekend of September 8 & 9, 2018
Our mission is to reach up to God; to reach in to each other; and to reach out to others.
We give thanks to the Lord of the Church as Pastor Ethan Luhman has accepted the call to be our associate pastor.   Pastor Luhman’s main responsibilities among us are to serve as the lead pastor of our “River of Life” ministry center in Saukville and direct our adult ministries, with an emphasis on our “REACHGroup” small group ministry.

Pastor Luhman grew up in Green County, Wisconsin, active in his Lutheran congregation. He is a 2011 graduate of Concordia University Wisconsin and graduated with his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary—St. Louis in 2015. Pastor Luhman was called to be associate pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Saratoga Springs, NY. Pastor Luhman is 29 years old, with 3 years of parish ministry experience. In 2012, he married Sherry Gall, who grew up in Cedarburg. They have three sons, ages 5, 3 and 8 months.

Look forward to more information concerning the date and details of Pastor Luhman’s installation service. In the meantime, please keep Pastor & Mrs. Luhman and sons in your prayers as they transition to our family of faith.
New Sermon Series
We have begun a new worship series entitled, “Judges.” This seven-week series will walk us through the Old Testament, Book of Judges. The Children of Israel left the bonds of slavery under the leadership of Moses. They entered the Promise Land under the leadership of Joshua. Later, they were ruled by kings, like Saul, David and Solomon. But, there was a period of time between Joshua and the kings that the Children of Israel struggled mightily. They ignored the Lord’s way and even worshipped false gods. Twice, the Book of Judges tells us, In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes (Judges 17:6 and 21:15). The Lord sent “judges” to provide leadership. These were not “judges” as we would picture, presiding over a court. These “judges” were temporary and special deliverers, sent by God to deliver the Israelites from their oppressors. We begin this series with an introduction to the Book of Judges, where we find the Israelites “half-hearted” in their relationship with the Lord. Rather than being the center of their community and lives, the people sought only the things they thought would bring happiness. Doesn’t that sound like our culture? We’ve moved the Lord aside and everyone does what is right in his own eyes .
It takes dozens of volunteers each week to ensure the worship services of First Immanuel Ministries run smoothly. We need to expand this group of volunteers so more people can be involved and everyone can serve less often!

Volunteer Opportunities include: PowerPoint “clicking” ~ Greeters ~ Ushers ~ Bulletin & Newsletter Assembly ~ Altar Guild ~ Worship Assistants ~ Musicians ~ Vocalist.

Contact Danielle in the office to express your interest in helping with any of these activities. Many are excellent opportunities to earn Living Stones and/or for Community Service hours.
Dear First Immanuel and River of Life Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It has been a year since Peter has gone to heaven and what a year of rides and bumps it has been. We have done the year of “firsts” and survived them all by the grace of God alone! We have experienced weak faith and strong faith and God has never left us. Neither have all of you. You have prayed for us and cried with us. You have sent cards and meals and gifts. You have given more than I could have ever imagined. You built a school in his name!!! We are blessed beyond my wildest dreams. Even in our deepest lows, we are truly blessed! I want to thank all of you for caring for us while Peter was sick and now while he is gone. My days are not easy, but seeing God’s people do what He tells us to do makes every single day a gift. Thank you for being the church that you are and for all of the support you have given our family.
