A Note from Debbie Cox and the Middle Schoolers

A couple of weeks ago, over 62 middle school youth attended the Diocesan Middle School Retreat at Lake Logan – and nine of them were Trinitarians. The themes for the weekend were “Family, Friends, and Faith.” The diocesan youth council – including our senior acolyte Siena Gentry and Francis Wilder - led small group discussions, games, and music. It was a great weekend to get to know other youth from other churches and to be reminded that we are part of a larger community of faith.

Sixth grader Nora Stanley says, “It was my first time at Lake Logan and I want to return next summer to Camp Henry. I liked the Wacky Tacky Olympics and participating in the Sunday Service.”

Investiture of the Next Presiding Bishop

November 2 - online only

The Investiture of the next Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church will be on November 2. He has boldly chosen to hold a scaled-down service in the small chapel of the church’s headquarters at 815 Second Avenue in New York City instead of a grand service at the Washington National Cathedral. The Chapel of Christ the Lord seats 129.

The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe, the next Presiding Bishop, begins his ministry by calling the church to live into the existential changes taking place in the church. He is demonstrating the need for change by choosing to hold his installation in a way that conserves financial and environmental resources. In the spirit of hope, we can expect his term of service to continue with radical changes to how we operate and live out our ministries so that we might best serve our Lord.

You are invited to participate in his installation service through cyberspace. The service will be live-streamed on the Episcopal Church website and on the Episcopal Church's Facebook page. A “roll call” of Dioceses begins at 9:30, and the service starts at 11:00. You can find all the information you need to participate at https://www.episcopalchurch.org/investiture/

Leadership Giving for 2025

Dear Friends,

Each Fall, Trinity invites members to consider their financial gift for the following year. Our regular annual giving campaign will begin on October 1. We are, however, inviting all members to participate in our “pre-campaign” Leadership Giving period by making your 2025 pledge electronically.

From now until September 30 you can make your Leadership Pledge electronically and when you do so you will be removed from the regular giving process in October.

Over and over members of Trinity tell me how much Trinity is a place of grounding for the Spirit and Soul. Here at Trinity we know our core values, keep the Gospel of Jesus as our center focus and listen intently to how the Spirit calls us to growth through service and witness. Thank you for your deep generosity and your commitment to Trinity’s mission and ministry.

On behalf of the Stewardship Team and our Vestry, we invite you to be a part of the list of Leadership Givers and make your 2025 pledge before September 30.

Your gift makes possible our mission to be a place where all can Explore Faith, Embrace Community, Expect a Difference and make one.

Reading the Bible Literately,

not Literally

This Sunday: September 29— Mike Reardon and Ed Bleynat will consider Paul’s Letter to Philemon.

9:30-10:30 - Undercroft & Zoom

This Sunday is the last session of this series.

The Bible is not one book – it comprises many books written in several different genres. You’ll find poetry, narrative, legal codes, history, personal letters, and more. Every week, we’ll look at one particular piece of Scripture and consider how its literary style, genre, and context help us understand it.

Parents in Conversation

Clark Room, 9:30

This more social, discussion-based class is open to anyone but is particularly created with parents in mind. Over the years in this space, we’ve talked about issues like anxiety, cell phones and social media, the enneagram and parenting, the bad parents of the book of Genesis, and more! If you prefer a class that is more conversational, this might be the space for you. Here’s what our calendar is going to look like for the next several weeks:

Sept 29 Preview of “Tell Me The Truth About Racism” with Beth Chestnut. This is an introduction to an event Sunday afternoons in October. Beth and other Godly Play teachers will present a unique storytelling series about the origins of racism in American history. This series will help us think theologically about what it means to be human and beloved. If adults are interested but unsure, come check out this sample lesson today before the series begins.

Enter Only on Church Street at 10:45

During the 10:45 service there will be one entrance only into the entire Trinity Church campus, the main gate entrance on Church Street. At 10:45 the office doors and the door leading to the Tuton Hall stairway will automatically lock. Reducing access points while most of us are occupied in the church is a high level recommendation for enhancing overall security during that time. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

More Opportunities

Brotherhood of St. Andrew

Trinity is developing a new men’s group, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Trinity began one of the Brotherhood's first chapters in the late 1800s, and we have re-chartered that same chapter.

The Brotherhood primarily focuses on fellowship and encourages us to unite also around ministries of service at Trinity and in our greater community. It also provides an opportunity for us to remember each other in prayer and come together in study.

To start, we are focusing on three opportunities to come together.

  • Kick-off gathering on Thursday, October 10, from 6 to 8 at Deacon Bob Zito's home.
  • Monthly fellowship time on the last Tuesday of each month at 5:30.
  • Gathering time at church on the first Sunday of each month during the Adult Formation time, 9:30 to 10:30. This will be fellowship, for sure, yet also an opportunity to share prayer requests and study the scriptures.

Following that, Dave Erb will speak in the Chapel about “Electronic Vehicles: The Future is Now.” He is a retired engineering professor from UNC-A, a noted proponent of EVs and a well known speaker on that subject.
