Rector Search Committee Update

From your Search Committee -

We are deeply grateful to all of you who shared your thoughts during last month's holy conversations. Your insights are invaluable in helping us convey St. Christopher’s identity, values, and vision as we continue the search for our next rector. We are pleased to share that the process is on track, and a draft of the Parish Profile will be ready next week for review by the vestry, the Rev. Ashley Freeman, and Bishop Russell. Once finalized, Ashley+ will use the profile to post the position through the Episcopal News Service and on various social media platforms. If you know someone who would be a strong candidate, please share their name, current church, and (if available) email address with any member of the search committee, and we will ask Ashley+ to reach out to them directly.

A Prayer for our Parish:

We thank you for the faithful ministry of Mother Susan, who has cared for and nurtured our flock for many years with love, devotion, and wisdom. Your light has shone brightly through her, illuminating the path of your people. We also lift in gratitude, Donna, for her love and support during this season of service. We pray that you will bless and protect them as they navigate their retirement journey.

Look graciously upon our parish and guide us with your Holy Spirit as we seek a new rector.  Empower our search committee with wisdom, discernment and hope, trusting that you are preparing a new shepherd for us.  May we walk faithfully in your will seeking to glorify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

See you tonight for Manna!

Join us tonight for a special presentation from Christian Wagley, coastal organizer for Healthy Gulf - an organization that works on water quality, energy, endangered species and climate issues along the coast of NW Florida and South Alabama. Christian will trace the natural history of the Gulf region, and focus on Rice's whales as a modern parable for the struggles of the Gulf.

Come and learn more about the role of whales in Gulf nutrient cycling, the threats they face, and conservation actions needed to protect them. We’ll focus on the incredible story of the Rice’s whale-a species that lives only in the Gulf-the science that led to its designation as a new species just three years ago, and how the whales intersect with open ocean birds and fish. All are welcome!

[Christian Wagley is coastal organizer for Healthy Gulf. He previously worked on green building and development issues in both the public and private sector, and in 2022 served as Environment co-leader on Pensacola mayor D.C. Reeves’ Transition Team. Christian holds a master’s degree in biology/coastal zone studies from the University of West Florida.]

Creation Care

An invitation to participate in celebrating

the Season of Creation in September

Altar: You’re invited to bring something meaningful from nature to place on a table in front of the altar in the Church - maybe a stone, a feather, a piece of driftwood, a photograph or small piece of art, whatever is special to you. These can be placed anytime during the week and between services, and will remain in place throughout the month.

Bulletin Cover: St. Christopher's Creation Care Community invites all parishioners to submit a photograph of a favorite place (with no faces or individuals) that perhaps connects you to a loving relationship with a particular place in our natural world. These photos will be arranged in collage form for the September 28th worship bulletin cover.

Please email photos to Jessica Boyd communications@scpen.org as a JPEG. Deadline is Monday, September 22nd.
