Photo: Sonoma Valley Fire District Firefighter/EMT Carlos Ortiz was among the first of health care providers across the county to receive his initial dose of the FDA approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in December.

As of Jan. 6, 8,046 Sonoma County residents have been vaccinated. The County has opened up all of Phase 1a for vaccination, which includes Tiers 1, 2, and 3, and hope to move onto Phase 1b by the end of January or the beginning of February.

It is important to remember at this stage, that It will be several months before the vaccine is available to the general population and the County doesn’t yet have a precise timeline for when the vaccine will be available to groups in different phases/tiers. Health experts have also advised that even as vaccines become more widely available, it will be critical that we continue to protect ourselves from COVID-19 by taking usual mitigation measures like mask-wearing and social distancing.

For more information, watch this week's Community Update with Sonoma County Public Health Officer Dr. Mase and visit the County's vaccine information webpage.
