What You Need to Know

Upcoming vote on solid waste, recycling, and bulk waste/trash collection service agreements.

The next City Commission Regular Meeting, scheduled for January 9, 2024 at 6:30 p.m., will include votes on two franchise agreements concerning solid waste, recycling, and bulk waste/trash and bulk yard waste collection service agreements.

While not finalized, these new proposed agreements would bring a significant cost savings to the City and promise to maintain the same level of service which residents and businesses are accustomed to.

Recycling Rules (Do and Don'ts)
Free Chip-a-Tree Program

Over the years, Broward County has recycled thousands of Christmas trees, which probably would otherwise have gone to landfills. This year your tree can join those recyclable thousands.

The free program requires Broward County residents to remove all decorations from their holiday trees (no decorated trees will be accepted), then bring the trees to a participating park - there are 12 of them - where they will be chipped and used for landscaping throughout the County park system. There is a limit of two trees per vehicle, artificial trees are not accepted, and no commercial vehicles or garbage trucks are allowed.

This season's program runs through Monday, January 15, 2024 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), giving you plenty of time to take advantage of those after-the-holidays sales before hauling your tree to a park. And remember, the regular weekend and holiday gate entrance fee will NOT be in effect for recyclers. Hours vary; call the park of your choice for details.
