The News & Notes You Need to Know About

City Administrative Offices Closed on Veterans Day

City Hall and the Community Center will be closed on Monday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day. The Pool and Tennis Center will be open from 8 AM to 4 PM, with the community pool open from 12 PM – 4 PM.

Join us in honoring our heroes during a Veterans Day Ceremony at Memorial Park, located between City Hall and the Community Center, on November 11th at 11 AM.

Cooper City Mayor-Elect

James "Jamie" Curran


Cooper City Charter Amendment

Passed

In accordance with the Cooper City Charter, Mayor-Elect James Curran, Commissioner Ryan C. Shrouder, and Commissioner-Elect Jason Smith will be sworn in for their terms exactly three business days after election results are certified.


Commissioner Shrouder and Commissioner-Elect Smith ran unopposed in the 2024 election.

Field Enhancements & Closures

In October, the City Commission approved baseball and softball field renovations at Suellen H. Fardelmann and Bill Lips sports complexes.


Due to the renovation project, the following field closures are necessary:


  • Suellen H. Fardelmann Sports Complex
  • Baseball fields are closed through January 17, 2025


  • Bill Lips Sports Complex
  • Softball Field 4 is closed through January 17, 2025
  • Softball Fields 1-3 closed December 2, 2024 through January 17, 2025


Please note, Fields 1 and 2 (multipurpose fields) are also closed at Bill Lips Sports Complex due to maintenance. The fields are tentatively scheduled to reopen on Monday, November 18.

Prescribed Burn Scheduled for Long Key Natural Area & Nature Center in Davie

Broward County Parks and Recreation Division, along with the Florida Forest Service, is scheduled to do a prescribed burn at Long Key Natural Area & Nature Center located at 3501 SW 130 Avenue in Davie, weather permitting, on November 14, 2024.


While Cooper City does not expect any major effects, you may sense a smell of burning while outdoors and perhaps see smoky conditions especially in the northwest section of Cooper City while the burn occurs.

Shining Light on Epilepsy

Last month, our City Commission proclaimed November as Epilepsy Awareness Month in Cooper City.


Cooper City schools will be participating in "Wear Purple for Epilepsy Awareness Day" on Friday, November 22.


According to Epilepsy Alliance Florida, 1 in 26 people are diagnosed with Epilepsy in their lifetime.

BSO Cooper City Santa Holiday Program

Santa Claus is Coming to Town!


One of Cooper City’s favorite holiday happenings is on the horizon as Santa prepares to ride on a firetruck and visit boys and girls. The registration process has changed this year. Sign-up will be conducted online via Eventbrite. We will NOT be collecting sign-ups in person at BSO Cooper City Fire Station 28.


Online sign-up will open on Saturday, November 16, at 10 AM on Eventbrite. Santa and his elves will make their visits on Saturday, December 14 and Sunday, December 15.

Holiday Home Decorating Contest


Our Parks and Recreation Department will begin accepting entries for our Holiday Home Decorating Contest on Monday, November 18th. The deadline to enter will be Wednesday, December 11th.

Landscape Master Plan Design Guidelines

The City Commission has adopted a Design Guidelines Manual following a full Master Plan process. The manual provides a roadmap for helping to revitalize the City's public and open spaces as funding becomes available.

Fall Garage Sale!

Cookies & Cocoa with Santa

Registration Starts November 13th

Join the Cooper City Parks and Recreation Department for our annual Cookies and Cocoa with Santa! Enjoy an evening with delicious cookies and cocoa, crafts, pics with Santa, and much more!


Proof of Cooper City residency is required for registration. This event has limited seating and tickets will not be sold at the door. Registration opens Wednesday, November 13th.

Holiday Movie with a TWIST

Registration for Painting Starts November 20th

Bring family and friends to enjoy a Holiday Movie...WITH A TWIST! During the movie, participants will have the option to use their creativity and paint their favorite holiday canvas. *Movie viewing is open for all if not interested in the painting portion.


Winners of the 2024 Home Decorating Contest will be announced. 

Menorah Lighting on December 30th!

All are invited to join us as we mark the first night of Hanukkah with a Menorah Lighting in Memorial Park. Our Parks and Recreation Department will have activities for children, before and after the lighting ceremony. Light refreshments will also be provided.

Step into a Fitness Routine


The Cooper City Fitness Center is located at the Pool and Tennis Center located at 11600 Stonebridge Parkway within the Rock Creek community. An individual annual gym membership starts at only $85.60 for seniors (age 62+). An individual annual membership for Cooper City residents, age 14-61, is $139.10.

Home Watch Program


Did you know the Broward Sheriff's Office Cooper City District has a free Home Watch Program?


With this program, a deputy will check your home regularly while you are away. An exterior check of your home will be conducted to make sure there have been no unlawful entries and that no other obvious problems have occurred outside of your home. To sign up for this FREE service, please fill out the Home Watch form and visit the BSO Cooper City District Office (10580 Stirling Rd.) to complete registration.

My Safe Florida Home


The My Safe Florida Home Program offers eligible home owners the opportunity to make an application for a wind mitigation home inspection free of charge by the State.

Fingerprinting Services


The BSO Cooper City District is now providing complimentary fingerprinting services to Cooper City residents and business owners. Fingerprinting is available by appointment only on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.

Passport appointments every 15 minutes at City Hall.

What to Do If 911 Does Not Answer:


If a Cooper City resident calls 911 and receives no answer, there's no need to panic. You can call the BSO Cooper City station directly at 954-435-2000. It's worth noting that Cooper City's BSO station is the only BSO district to have a staffed lobby 24/7, 365 days a year.
