Holiday Safety Tips from the Sheriff's Office
Typically, in this season, marked by heightened shopping activities, there is a rise in opportunistic crimes such as package thefts, bank jugging, thefts in retail establishments, and burglaries targeting bags or items taken from vehicles in parking lots. Valuable crime prevention tips are integrated into the Broward Sheriff's Office Holiday Operational Plan, and a selection of these is shared below.
Bank Jugging Warning
Bank Jugging is a type of crime where criminals follow individuals after leaving a bank and break into their cars or physically rob them of their withdrawal. This type of crime usually happens when the victim's cash is visible as they leave a financial institution or ATM.
For some tips to help prevent bank jugging, click here.
Auto Burglary Prevention Tips
Every night before you go to bed, do a security check and verify you have done the following:
  • Remove key fobs & spare keys from vehicle
  • Remove all valuables from vehicle
  • Remove firearms out of vehicle
  • Lock vehicle doors
  • Close and lock garage doors

Mental Health is Important!
In the United States, mental illness ranks among the highest burdens of all diseases and is a leading cause of disability. In 2020, nearly 1 in 5 adults had a mental health disorder. This issue also affects children and adolescents, with depression, anxiety, and behavioral disorders being prominent concerns. Thankfully, many mental health disorders can be effectively treated, and early diagnosis and treatment are key to reducing their impact on individuals and public health.
