The News & Notes You Need to Know About
Next City Commission Regular Meeting is Tuesday, March 12
Our City Commission will convene for a regular meeting on Tuesday, March 12, at 6:30 PM at City Hall located at 9090 SW 50 Place.

Multiple action items are on the agenda, including a resolution to decrease residential rates for the collection and disposal of solid waste. The City Commission will review the proposed decrease, and vote on a rate, following the January approval of a new franchise agreement with Coastal Waste and Recycling to become Cooper City's hauler for solid waste and recycling starting April 1, 2024.

A key factor in the prior approval of the franchise agreement was Coastal's submitted bid for residential collection, which is approximately 21% less than the existing collector's residential cost. City staff has proposed a decrease, for residential collection, that does not equal the full 21% but does offer a sizeable savings for each residential customer. City staff is also proposing to freeze the decreased rate through September 2026 and subsequently allow the City to build a reserve fund, for solid waste fees, which it does not currently have.

Also on the Agenda
City-Wide Traffic Study Presentation

The March 12 City Commission meeting will also include a presentation from The Corradino Group on a City-Wide Traffic Study. This study was conducted along 51 corridor segments. The study involved gathering speed and volume at the locations between mid-May and mid-June 2023. Additionally, a 5-year crash review from 2018 to 2023 was conducted.

The Corradino Group will be providing recommendations based upon its findings, while also providing information on traffic calming measures that can be implemented in the near future, in the mid-term, and long-term.

Celebrating the Life of Officer Jacquie James
Members of our City Commission had the honor of presenting Officer Jacquie James' family with a proclamation this past weekend, as a tribute to the remarkable impact she had in our community.

In 1975, Jacquie became Cooper City's first female police officer and served for nearly three decades within the Cooper City Police Department. She is fondly remembered for the major impact she had in our community's schools through her advocacy for Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) and similar initiatives geared toward Cooper City's youth.

Officer Jacquie's relatives, from both near and far, attended the Celebration of Life at the BSO Cooper City Police Station to share stories and meet residents and members of our community.
