The Education Advisory Board (EAB) and members of the City Commission led the celebration of an an exciting milestone, as the first group of students successfully completed the Civics Scholar Program, an initiative facilitated by the EAB to encourage youth engagement in local government and community life.
Launched as a pilot program for middle school students, the Civics Scholar Program invites participants to explore how local government works by attending City meetings, volunteering in the community, learning about Cooper City’s history, and connecting directly with City leaders. Students track their experiences through a Civics Scholar Passport and complete a reflective essay highlighting what they learned along the way.
During the special reception at City Hall, the City proudly recognized these inaugural Civics Scholars for their curiosity, dedication, and commitment to civic involvement. Congratulations to all of the students who completed the program and demonstrated what it means to be engaged members of our community’s future.

PUBLIC NOTICE Temporary Change in Water Disinfection Process Now through March 10, 2026
| | |
Our water disinfection process has been temporarily modified by conducting a free chlorination treatment of the water distribution system. The free chlorination process will take place through March 10, 2026.
Free chlorination is a routine maintenance practice used periodically by water utilities to help maintain water quality and reduce the potential for biological growth within the distribution system. During this time, the City will temporarily switch from its standard chloramine disinfection method (a combination of chlorine and ammonia) to free chlorine.

Upcoming Road Closure Culvert Replacement Project Will Affect Section of SW 49 Street from March 2026-August 2026
| | |
Starting in March 2026, the City will be replacing the existing culvert located at SW 49th Street, between Natalie's Cove Road and SW 120th Avenue, as the current structure has reached the end of its useful life. This project is important to maintain proper drainage, roadway stability, and public safety in the surrounding areas.
Throughout the entirety of the project, SW 49th Street will not be accessible to vehicles or pedestrians between Natalie's Cove Road and SW 120th Avenue. As a result, residents who live on the west side of the project will need to use an alternate route, especially when commuting to and from Griffin Elementary School and Bill Lips Sports Complex.
| | Putting Fun in Fundraising | | |
Through the generous support of pickleball players from Cooper City and surrounding communities, more than $2,100 was raised in support of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Participants came together not only for friendly competition, but for a meaningful cause, helping fund cancer research, patient services, and lifesaving programs that support individuals and families affected by cancer.
Events like this showcase the power of our community when we rally together for something bigger than ourselves. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who played, volunteered, and supported the effort.
The fundraising continues! Join us for the next Relay for Life fundraiser, Bunco Night, taking place on Friday, March 6. We invite residents and friends to come out, have fun, and help us continue the fight against cancer.
| | Let's roll and fight cancer together! The City of Cooper City and Optimist Club of Cooper City are hosting a Bunco Night with proceeds helping support the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
