Here's Your Chance to Go Behind the Scenes

Cooper Academy is Back

Whether you have lived in Cooper City for decades or recently moved to Someplace Special, this seven-week program gives an in-depth look at the work and equipment that helps provide the services you rely on.

Cooper Academy is open to all Cooper City residents age 16 and up. All you need to do is take a few minutes to sign up and let us know you're ready to embark on the experience!

Sports Complex Updates

Multiple projects are ongoing at our Cooper City sports complexes. We have set up a page with frequently asked questions to help residents learn about the projects and maintenance programs that are underway.

Additionally, you can visit our Parks and Project Updates webpage at any time to see what fields are open or closed, and what upcoming work is scheduled.

Bill Lips Sports Complex

A full re-sodding of the Multipurpose Fields at Bill Lips Sports Complex is nearly complete. The Multipurpose Fields will be closed for this renovation until Fall 2025.

Additionally, softball fields at Bill Lips Sports Complex are closed for maintenance and are set to reopen in Fall 2025. Please visit our park projects page for more information.

Suellen H. Fardelmann Sports Complex

Fields A and B are closed for maintenance at Suellen H. Fardelmann Sports Complex and are set to reopen in Fall 2025.

Field C is open for free play until the week of July 21st through the week of August 2nd, and will then resume being open for open play.

Starting June 16th, all baseball fields at Suellen H. Fardelmann Sports Complex will be closed for maintenance and set to reopen in Fall 2025.

Flamingo West Park

All fields at Flamingo West Park will be closed starting Friday, June 6th for turf repairs. Weather permitting, repairs are expected to take one week allowing the fields to be reopened on Friday, June 13th.

Road Closure Advisory

A structural reinforcement project of the bridge deck on Stirling Road, just west of Flamingo Road, in Cooper City is progressing. While a majority of the work has been performed underneath the bridge structure, it is now necessary to temporarily close travel lanes at this location for one night, to complete waterproofing and resurfacing.

Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Stirling Road, on the west side of Flamingo Road, will be closed beginning at 8 PM on Thursday, June 5th and are expected to reopen by 6 AM on Friday, June 6th, barring any unforeseen conditions or weather delays.

Road Repair

Our Utilities Department completed an asphalt repair at the intersection of Stirling Road and Hiatus Road. A dip, surrounding a manhole cover, had formed along the westbound lanes of Stirling Road at this intersection. Thank you to all those who exercised caution at this location, as our team carried out the repair.

Vulnerable Population Registry

Hurricane season has begun. Another reminder that Broward County residents who may be vulnerable in the event of an emergency are encouraged to pre-register in the County’s Vulnerable Population Registry. The Registry is for those who are at risk due to a disability, frailty, or health issue, regardless of age, who choose to shelter at home.

Active Adult Spotlight

Dave "Skipper" Duda

Each month, we recognize members of our Pool and Tennis Center and residents who are highly involved in Active Adult Programs. This month, we recognize Dave "Skipper" Duda for his enduring dedication to our community and participation in Active Adult Programs.

How long have you been participating in Active Adult Programs?

3 Years.

What City Committees or organizations are you and have you been involved in? Cooper City's Recreation Advisory Board and Senior Citizen Advisory Board, Citizens Observer Patrol (COP), and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Any tips or advice for new Active Adult Members?

Recruit active adults to come to the Senior Community Center and participate in our programs. Search and suggest outstanding programs for seniors and non-seniors at the Center.

Where are you from?

I was born in Springfield, Ohio and lived in an orphanage until I was adopted at 6 years old. I have worked in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Texas, and Florida.

What do you like most about being a part of our Active Adult community?

Being on the Advisory Board suggesting outstanding programs that will attract seniors and get them off the couch and out into their beautiful world.

Who or what inspires you?

Two of my favorite songs: “To Dream the Impossible Dream” and “Climb Every Mountain."

What has been your biggest achievement

Induction into the International Swimming Hall of Fame as an instructor/teacher (not a coach) promoting every individual to be a safe swimmer.  Member of International Swimming Hall of Fame Board of Directors.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be? Why?

Gina Maggio, with our Parks and Recreation Department. She is one of the most outstanding recreation managers I have ever worked with in the field. She is passionate, caring and very detail oriented.

What did you love the most about your career?

Teaching aquatics courses in Broward County (Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instructors, and Certified Pool Operators): Working as an Adjunct Professor at Broward College teaching Sports Fitness Recreation Management where I could also develop, mentor and guide students. These are opportunities to give back for all that I have received!

How do you define success?

Learn today, lead tomorrow. And, leading by example.

What is the biggest career challenge you’ve had to overcome?

Flunking out of my undergraduate degree; returning to finish and making the President’s Honor Roll for my Master’s Degree.

Do you have any hobbies?

Reading books on self-help, and learning how to truly lead and help others!

Favorite place you’ve traveled?

Ireland and Jamaica.

Fun fact that people probably don’t know about you!

When I was 13 years old, I was so shy that if I saw someone I knew coming down the sidewalk, I would cross over to the other side of the street, so I would not have to acknowledge the individual. Today, when I walk into a room, I make it a point to speak to everyone.

Who is someone who’s made a big impact on your life?

My family has contributed to my personal and professional success and support everything I do! Marty, Kristin and Derek!

Explore a diverse range of activities, classes, and programs tailored just for active adults! Please note, some programs have recently changed.

Summer programs include Rummikub at the Community Center on Tuesdays at 12 PM and Social Pinochle every Tuesday and Thursday at the Community Center from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
