Oil-like Substance Closes South Beaches

The following Beach Advisory was issued yesterday  after "globs of an oil-like substance" were found washing up on the shore of South Bay beaches:

A beach closure has been declared for the area from El Segundo Jetty to the North and the Redondo Beach city limit to the South, due to a release of petroleum effecting the area. Beach users are advised to avoid contact with the material washed on shore, the water, and wet sand. Contact with oil may cause skin irritation and long-term health effects.

Updates and further information can be obtained at L.A. County's beach advisory hotline at 800.525.5662, or at the Department's web site:

Call for Artists - Power of Art

Attention Artists! We would like you to be a part of the largest art project in the history of Los Angeles, Power of Art. We are physically turning LA into the largest art gallery in the world and we would be honored if you submitted your work for consideration.

For centuries, artists have been pushed to the side, disrespected and taken advantage of for their talent. This is especially true in Los Angeles. But enough is enough. It is time to bring opportunity to artists and bring them out of the shadows.

Power of Art is unveiling LA's soul in the streets. We have successfully fought to secure mural access to over 4,000 signal boxes in Los Angeles.
