Getting in the Autumn Spirit
Fall is here and we’re getting ready for the season!

This week, potted mums were dropped off at each Community Living Essex County home to help kick off their fall decorating! Stay tuned to our social media pages for even more photos of the beautiful front porch decorations over the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out Louis’ and Alvin’s porches!

Strategic Planning at Community Living Essex County
For anyone who hasn't participated in a formal strategic planning process before, it can be intimidating and a bit of a mystery as to what's involved. It's been four years since Community Living Essex County set out strategic goals and priorities and we're happy to report that many of them have been achieved through lots of hard work and the collective effort of people we support, dedicated support workers, committed families, a strong leadership team and countless volunteers and supporters. It's now time to embark upon the comprehensive, inclusive process again.

Led by a consultant with extensive experience in developmental services and in the facilitation of effective strategic planning processes, our agency, in collaboration with people we support, employees, families, board members, and other stakeholders, will begin to zero in on priorities for the coming years. Beginning this fall, we will be calling upon everyone connected to the agency to provide input so that all voices are reflected in the final plan.

This time around, due to COVID-19, most strategic planning activities will take place virtually. We view this as an opportunity rather than a roadblock, as perhaps the convenience and flexibility of connecting online may increase participation. This valuable process will take several months and include interviews, surveys, and various other activities. The outcome will guide the work of our organization for the next several years. We hope that when the call for participation reaches your inbox, you'll embrace the opportunity to tell us what's most important to you when it comes to services and supports for people with an intellectual disability. Let's work together.

Virtual Ruthven Apple Festival Is Here
Great Time to Visit the Pumpkin Patch
While it still feels like summer around Essex County, a visit to the pumpkin patch is a great fall outdoor activity, particularly on a bright, sunny day. Around Essex County, we have lots of great pumpkin patches to choose from and many offer food, beverages, activities and more. Most of these outdoor spaces have plenty of room to maintain physical distancing while picking out the best pumpkin for your porch.

Recipe of the Week
Rosemary Chicken Lasagna
This version is made with a creamy béchamel sauce and mushrooms and a fun little trick of using egg roll wrappers instead of pasta for a lighter version.
