For more than a century, the Olympic Games have united communities worldwide, promoting fitness, sports participation, and the core values of teamwork and dedication. These values align with Canada's mission to create a better and more equitable future for all Canadians.
Over the next two weeks, more than 330 athletes will represent Team Canada across 28 sports, from swimming and track and field to table tennis. With their exceptional athleticism, sportsmanship, and talent, these athletes will not only solidify their legacies but also inspire the next generation of Canadians. Special congratulations to Maude Charron and Andre De Grasse, who served as Team Canada’s flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony. Having both won gold medals for our country, they carried our flag with pride. Let’s rally behind our Team Canada athletes as they proudly wear the Maple Leaf and make history. Best of luck to all of them. Click the link below to see Canada's official up-to-date medal count.

Neal is a Detroit Tigers fan, while the support staff likes the Toronto Blue Jays. Although Neal has attended many baseball games in Detroit, he has never been to the Rogers Centre to watch a game. He and the support staff decided to go to the Rogers Centre to see their teams compete. Neal was excited to watch his team defeat the Toronto Blue Jays and was more than happy to finally put this rivalry to rest.

Employee Appreciation Event
|
On July 24th and July 25th, Community Living Essex County hosted a two-day Employee Appreciation Event, which celebrated the dedication and hard work of all employees. The events, organized by the agency’s Wow! Factor Committee, took place at Wolfhead Distillery in Amherstburg and included live entertainment by renowned local artist Richard Janik. Those in attendance enjoyed delicious food and drinks, games, raffle prizes, and above all, a lively atmosphere filled with appreciation and camaraderie. Milestone recipients (with 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and even 35 years of service to the agency) were also celebrated and presented with their length of service awards by members of our Board of Directors. AWARENESS and ACCEPTANCE
How often, as lifelong caregivers of children with intellectual disabilities, have we seen advertisements in print and multimedia praising services for those with disabilities? Have you ever noticed the demographics represented? Seniors! Those with medical issues! Those with physical disabilities! Many of these conditions are acquired as a result of aging, meaning their disabilities aren’t lifelong.
Is there recognition for individuals who face challenges from birth? These challenges may be physical, mental, intellectual, medical, or a combination of these. Their disabilities shape their entire lives.
Planning to maximize daily opportunities for growth starts at birth. To fully embrace community life, many doors need to be opened.
A pleasure that so many of us enjoy is dining somewhere other than at home. For those with disabilities, going out for lunch or dinner often involves pre planning. Is the destination accessible? Is the atmosphere welcoming? Are the lighting and noise levels tolerable? Depending on the individual, there could be any number of other considerations.
I found it refreshing to read an article published by the Canadian restaurant industry on www.restobiz.ca.
8 Ways to Welcome Restaurant Guests With Disabilities
There are the usual obvious suggestions but others highlighted, show that there is an increasing awareness of challenges facing those with disabilities - no matter their age 15% of Canadians have some kind of disability.
Highlighted things for restaurant employees to be aware of:
- ask before helping
- communicate with awareness and sensitivity
- choose your words carefully
- fulfill special requests willingly
- welcome those with disabilities on your website
Warm sunny days invite us to enjoy the great outdoors. If your outdoor adventures include a restaurant experience, it is to be hoped that the staff you encounter try their best to welcome, understand, and communicate with you.
BON APPÉTIT 🌞
