Holiday activities are beginning around Windsor/Essex County as we approach the month of December. Last weekend’s family activities seemed even more festive with the extreme cold and dusting of snow.
With all of the change December brings, we as families try to minimize the potential anxiety our kids, young and old, may experience. So much excitement and anticipation. Adding to all of this, deadlines - at home, school, work, and community. Is it any wonder our focus may be lost? Looming deadlines may cause us to proceed at a quicker pace, with less attention to maintaining our usual routines. For many people, all of these changes combined with days filled with sensory overload (sounds, sights and smells) are a recipe for disaster. It’s all too overwhelming.
There are steps that can be taken in order to diminish our family’s heightened emotions. Try to approach each day with the structure your family is accustomed to. Maintain an atmosphere of calm. The link below has tips that will inject further calm into your days. Above all else, project a positive attitude and take advantage of the joy of the season. Life through the eyes of the innocent is carefree. Be a child again!
Season's Greetings,
Marilyn, Ensemble Family Consultant and the Ensemble Family Committee

Last week CBC Windsor interviewed Chad Sutherland from the University of Windsor Kinesiology Department to talk about the Adapted Physical Exercise Program (APEX). Since 2011, Community Living Essex County has been partnering with the University of Windsor and APEX to provide this program to adults with an intellectual disability. APEX removes barriers to physical activity participation by ensuring accessibility, formally educated trainers and an inclusive environment! Under the supervision of human kinetics students working with them one-on-one, participants do cardio, weights, and a variety of sports. Handmade Beaded Christmas Ornaments
|
|
Make these beautiful colourful ornaments by baking opaque Pony beads in the oven.
It’s the perfect way to make a beautiful keepsake gift for family and friends.
The plastic Pony beads can give off a smell when baking, if this is a concern for you, bake them even faster using the outdoor grill or take your toaster oven outside and baked them.
If you use clear or transparent Pony beads, they’ll have a stained glass effect when baked and look beautiful when illuminated by Christmas tree lights. You can bake them in many shapes and sizes easily by using a cookie cutter.
