Stephanie Gives Back to Her Community
Stephanie championed the collection of food and personal care items for the Street Help Christmas in July Drive. Stephanie has the following message for everyone who contributed:

"Thank you to everyone who donated and helped out with the Christmas in July food drive/personal care items collection. I hope to host this again next year because I enjoy giving back to my community."

Stephanie helps to collect food and personal care items every year for Street Help.
Newcomers to Canada
Canada welcomes many newcomers each year. Often, newcomers bring their own language, culture, and ways of living, helping to make Canada diverse and vibrant. However, often immigrants struggle with adapting to life in Canada. Newcomers to Canada who live with intellectual disabilities struggle even more as they must navigate a new country as well as a somewhat complex healthcare system. People with intellectual disabilities coming to Canada also have the difficult task of understanding and applying for the resources available to them.

That’s where we come in. Ensemble provides guidance for families of individuals with intellectual disabilities to navigate government and community programs to access resources that can help support their loved one to live their best life. Below are some helpful links. There are many more on our website. Visit us!

Sip 'N Shop a Tasty Success
The inaugural Essex Fun Fest “Sip 'N Shop Mixer” was held last Thursday at the Essex Fairgrounds. The Essex Fun Fest organizing committee invited Community Living Essex County to serve as their charity of choice to receive $10 of every $30 ticket purchased. The event saw nearly 300 people attend who enjoyed a variety of local wine samplings, music, door prizes, and a food snacking table while supporting a variety of Essex BIA businesses.

Thank you to the Essex BIA, Town of Essex, and Essex Fun Fest for choosing Community Living Essex County; we look forward to being part of this event again in 2023.
Summertime Self-Care
Do you find yourself sad during the summer? When most people are stocking up on sunscreen and booking beach vacations, others are shutting out the sunshine completely.

You likely know seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, as the winter blues. Contrary to common knowledge, SAD can occur during the summer too! It’s called reverse seasonal affective disorder.

Check out the graphic above for tips on how to cope with summer depression.
July is Disability Pride Month
During the month of July, people around the world are celebrating Disability Pride Month. What started in the United States in 1990 has become a global movement of empowerment and visibility for those with disabilities.

In Canada, although the month is not yet recognized by the Canadian government, disability community members and advocates have taken the opportunity to speak out on social media about the barriers they face in our society, and how they have found creative solutions to overcome them - or what they need from their fellow Canadians to do so.
